Hoping the Melrose Building will be restored to its 1952 glory. Apparently considered the first truly modern skyscraper in Houston.

New info has surfaced on this one as well, as the subdivision replat was recently approved by the city.

- The apartment tower will stand at 38 floors/413 feet, up from 32 floors.

- The hotel will rise to 22 floors/243 feet, up from 21 floors.

400+ feet in the Med Center is huge. That is about same height as the Spires and will be visible from everywhere. The views should be great!

I saw this on a poster/billboard in a lawn while walking in Montrose the other day. Hadn't seen it on here, sorry if it has been discussed. It's at the northwest corner of California and Waughcrest.

That's the California. It's been in the works since the first of the year.

My recent trip into town included a drive past a brand new tower crane up in Springwoods. I'm not sure what it's building, but I was surprised at how fast the hospitals north of the Woodlands have gone up.

Demolition of the building will follow in late August or early September. Temporary fencing is going up soon in preparation for the work.

As early as 1990, I was seeing (and lived in) a 4-level townhome in the DC metro (1st level garage and den; second level kitchen, living and dining; third level bedrooms; fourth level loft from the master bedroom). Some older buildings in Old Town Alexandria had as many as five and six levels in one unit (talk about vertical living!). With density increasing in Houston, the move to taller townhome structures is to be expected.
