I believe the port is just preparing the "foundation" for the two future concourses which will jut outward from the current terminal. Having the apron already in place would, in my mind, allow for the port to begin construction on those expansion projects quicker.

Currently, the port is forced to wait on expanding the east concourse until the apron is extended further east...allowing for taxiing and RON space once the new gates are complete.

Given what we already know in passenger numbers this year, would anyone like to speculate or bet on what the final passenger count will be for 2014?

As a FYI, the following image outlines where the new aprons will be constructed.

Out of curiosity...you are forecasting an annual growth rate of less than 4% for ABIA (2013 vs. 2014)?

Through September 2014, the port recorded a passenger growth rate of 6.75%.

Two new concourses? Based on this document, the "preferred alternative" was to build a new terminal on the southside of the airport for numerous reasons. I'm not sure why they would change their minds on a beneficial solution and go back to potentially ripping through our beloved Barbara Jordan terminal.

Wait what I'm confused I haven't seen anything suggesting that the city is really pushing at pursuing anything other than A-07A, with A-06A only really presented as kind of a "Yeah this one isn't that great, but look at A-07A"

AEROMAR AUS-MEX IS DEAD!!

I'm not sure where the information is coming from, but wikipedia indicates otherwise that the route will be dropped December 31st. Good riddance for them!

Honestly I feel like Southwest would be able to operate the route with more success, but I doubt that AUS-MEX will be a successful route for a while

I think it was a double-whammy of like... Lack of brand recognition locally for Aeromar and low passenger traffic to MEX, because I feel like the AeroMéxico route did okay before the recession, not great, but not as abysmally as Aeromar.

I feel like the loss of this route will allow a more profitable international in sooner.

On that note, I'll be flying through using the new customs facility in the Infill project in January from LHR, I'll let y'all know my impression of the structure.

Not quite ready for the upgrade to 777 service...from http://airlineroute.net/2014/12/04/ba-aus-w15update2/
Quote:
British Airways in this week’s schedule update has revised planned London Heathrow – Austin operation from 25OCT15. Previously displaying aircraft change to 3-class 777-200ER, BA is now showing Boeing 787-8 aircraft continuing to operate this route.

I think that's the way it should be. The planes are 80% full at the moment, so I don't know why they would want to add more space inside the aircraft. Maybe once they start seeing full planes should they upgrade to a 772, or maybe a 787-9.

Although I've heard cargo is another factor in upgauging?

Yes...Cargo has an impact on up-gauging.

Also, the Routes Online report ended by saying: "Further changes to planned operational aircraft remains highly possible."

If I am not mistaken, AUSTIN1971 purported that the up-gauge to the B772 was temporary until British Airways takes delivery of their B789's. That is unless the route grows enough to warrant the change to a daily B772 service.
