Thank you for the update Schmoe. Hopefully it won't be too long before we have another tower crane or 2 going up for new projects downtown.

I have a feeling this will be the last crane downtown for awhile, unless Hines can execute their tower(s) and/or more proposals come through.

Astra Tower

Hey Schmoe, what are those strange looking panels on the 38Th and 39th floor of the astra tower on the south facing side?

Also, do you know then Astra is going to be opened?

Comrade has petitioned Schmoe to have his silhouette put on the north side of Astra:

Those are metal louver screens. They create some sun protection for a portion of the terrace on those penthouse units.

Astra Tower is scheduled to release first units for move-in on August 6th. The rest of the building will be phased in chunks until the entire building is delivered in mid-November.

If you have been following the news today, talks to relocate the Coyotes to SLC are in the final stages and it appears to be a done deal. Utah is about to get the long awaited second pro team we have discussed for years to begin play next season. Expect legitmate plans for the new arena soon.

Third pro team.

Someone has to speak up for the soccer nerds.

I don't think it's a done deal but it sure feels like there's a lot of smoke.

I've been trying to catch up on all of the reports that have just come out over the past 48 to 72 hours and it would seem like the scales are tipping in Salt Lake's favor. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If it happens it would seem like they are definitely aiming to make the decision even before the June property auction. I got the impression that all things considered, especially with the relocation fee profits (laundering profits) the NHL is pushing for the relocation to Salt Lake City.

Excited for NHL. I really hope they announce arena plans very soon. I have no idea how they will be able to fully renovate the DC and still have the Jazz and NHL play there at the same time. No way that works.

This all happened with IOC in SLC. Lots of official and unofficial deals made (between oligarchs) concerning facilities and such, I’m sure. From what I understand, the Coyotes didn’t like their stadium so I’m pretty sure they moved because of a new area being promised.

Coyotes were playing in a 5,000 seat college stadium. The league strong armed them into selling to the NHL who is then taking a markup (relocation fee) and selling to the Smith family.

Let’s go!! Going to be electric with Utahs enthusiastic fans at the games. I’ll be rooting on the Avalanche when they come to town, but I’m happy for SLC and Utah to get another pro team. And it means I’ll be able to go watch NHL hockey so it’s a win for all Utah hockey fans. Wonder what the team name will end up being

I wouldn't be surprised if the upcoming Olympics did help with the final push. I think this is just the beginning for Salt Lake City and the ancillary benefits of the next Olympics.
