Costco in Gatineau last night had a very large Bud Light display with a special price of 60 cans for 75 bucks.

Never seen Bud Light spotlighted like that at our Costco.

You have to factor in the amount I could conceivably consume before getting on the return flight.

Now you know how to attract the no taste Anglos to a backyard BBQ.

I've noticed a 12 pack of beer is creeping up a lot here in Quebec, with the new 10 cent per can deposit.

A 12 pack of Moosehead (usually one of the cheapest that isn't pabst or busch) is routinely $19.99 (plus tax, plus deposit - 25 bucks). Even at the Beer King.

For the fancier seltzer people, a 12 of White Claw is 28 bucks before tax.

First Time in World History White Claw Has Been Mentioned in the Same Sentence as "Fancy" or Derivatives Thereof.

It is expensive, so it must be fancy, according to Aylmer housewives and their poolside aficionados

Interesting - a 12 pack of Moosehead in Ontario is about $32 all-in. While a 12 of White Claw is $31.95 including tax/deposit. Always interesting what ends up being more expensive here vs on par or cheaper. In general Ontario gets hosed on macro beer - meanwhile craft can actually end up being cheaper than in Quebec and especially the US where prices are getting out of control.

This is the same logic that applies to Miller Genuine Draft.

In Canada, MGD is premium, and priced so. In the United States, cheap swill.

It makes me wonder about our country's supposed taste for 'premium'.

Craft beer is probably the big answer - though I would buy on either side of the river as the selection is totally different. If I'm in Ottawa I'd likely just get most of it from Dominion City or Tooth and Nail direct though. Not sure if it's still the case that you can get some wine cheaper at the LCBO, but the selection is also different. Most spirits are slightly cheaper in Quebec but not enough that I'd go out of my way.

If I'm getting a 2-4 I'd cross the river for sure though.

24 of Moosehead is now $41 bucks (taxes and deposit all in) at your friendly neighbourhood gas station. They are one of the cheapest.

Sleeman is close, but the likes of Molson and Labatt routinely charge more.

I still refuse to buy a cube of 60 bud beers from Costco. Unless I was going on a camping trip away from civilization for a long weekend.

$32 for a 12 pack of Moosehead? Almost $3 per beer? Highway robbery. I remember buying 24s of Moosehead in Montreal for less than a buck a beer. Ok, it was years ago, but jesus...

24 of Moosehead was less than 30 bucks here not that long ago.

Pabst asshole-releasing lager used to be 7 bucks for a six-pack way back in the two-thousand oughts.

Those are insane prices for mainstream, mass produced beer. I had to check to see what Moosehead goes for in BC, and it's about the same price as Ont/QC.

Yet I can buy a 15 pack of Parallel 49's craft lager for $21.99. Supporting a local brewery, and it's far cheaper? No brainer.
