Radio towers, they kind of screw up wide shots from the eastern(and taller) hill at Ascot.

Fig+Pico hotel tower project has a mobile crane on site. The land is fully dug out and it looks like they are probably getting ready to install the tower crane

I'm so confused by this project. Weren't the plans to build all the way back to Flower? But that section of the lot is still surface parking.

I’ve been thinking it was the rendering of the other Hotel that’s one block down. This is confusing.

Lightstone is building two buildings with three hotels. Only one of the two buildings has broken ground. The building on Fig/Pico is underway, but the building on Flower/Pico hasn't yet broken ground. It's still operating as a parking lot.

If that is in fact the case, it doesn't make sense. Why would they not build it all together? Seems more expensive to build part of it, then wait to build the rest.

Anyone know what's going on with this project: https://urbanize.la/post/53-story-ho...vention-center

It's not uncommon for developers to build projects in phases, even if the overall project was part of the same approval.

Anyone know how the riots are looking in downtown? A lot of places are being looted, mostly minority-owned businesses.

Not true...CVS, Starbucks, Terroni, etc. it’s not by any means MOSTLY minority-owned business.

Downtown has been severely affected along spring st and broadway.

In other news. Grand Avenue project has 10-11 floors built up on both towers and cladding is just beginning to form. It should start to move faster now that they are on the repeatable tower patterns and done with the base podium. And to address the fig+pico project. Yes, they are starting with the tower closest to the intersection of fig+pico. The second tower location is being used as a staging location.

@Niftybox and BillinGlendaleCA: Thanks so much!

Darn, the Wilshire Grand didn't change the skyline as much as I would've hoped. Developments near the convention center look rather interesting though.

Just a tip, if you don't want those radio towers or powerlines in your shot you can head up along the trail across the lower set of hills (the ones right in front of the first parking lot). On your left there will eventually be a rather sorry looking trail leading to an open gate in the fence next to the powerlines. My favorite spot was a small clearing around here: (https://www.google.com/maps/@34.0748.../data=!3m1!1e3) Don't know if it still exists, but it's not too hard to get around the hill with a good set of boots.

Thanks for the update on Gehry's Grand Avenue project, interested how that one was progressing, that project will add a nice taper to the east of the skyline.

I did a little photo editing trickery and added a scaled version of it to the skyline for fun

Moderator Edit: I know these are trying times for everyone, and I respect all opinions, let's just keep the dialogue here strictly to downtown development. Stay safe our there and respect to all.

That's the one!

If you go just a bit further, there's a point where the sightlines down Mission Rd, Soto St, and Broadway intersect. Early evening, just after sunset, all three are usually packed with cars. The taillights stretch on for miles and miles into the distance. Or at least, they did in the days before the virus.

Fair warning though, the cops close up the entrance to the parking lot at sunset. But park on Multnomah St just outside the entrance and no one will bother you, although you might find a flashlight handy for getting back to your car.

Brookfield Tower

If you look at the second photo, there is a grey box that is cut off on the right side of the photo. That is the old entrance from the parking garage to the shopping plaza and Target. Everything below is all more excavation. This pit looks to be 5-6 floors deep from the 7th Street side

I found the coyotes up there a bit off-putting for night work. I saw two hanging together the evening I took that shot.
