Preservation groups have put forward a plan to turn the buildings into archives. It's an odd fit, but it proves there are uses for the buildings that can maintain security for Dirksen.

Clearly archives are not a profit-generating use, so this would likely require 9 figures' worth of taxpayer money.

Great to hear. It is crazy to be tearing down buildings like this for such a short sighted reason in this day and age. There is always a way to make it work if they try.

Halsted St. is already a mess traffic wise. Between Halsted Point and the casino I'm glad I don't have to travel Halsted much anymore. I'm excited to watch the construction though!

Is the glass around the base of 360 N. Green translucent glass or more solid, spandrel-style glass? It's hard to tell from the daytime photos. The building looks great otherwise.
