Silverstein Properties proposes pair of 22-story apartment towers along Delaware River
Quote:
Silverstein Properties plans to build two, 22-story apartment towers along the Delaware River in South Philadelphia, a project that would make the latest local investment from the longtime New York developer.
The 612-unit development is planned for a 7-acre site at 1341 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. Plans call for two residential towers rising above a five-story podium that includes a five-level, 500-spot parking garage, 15,000 square feet of retail space and residential amenity space.
Silverstein — known for redeveloping the World Trade Center site in New York — has received conditional approval for the project being called Wharton Piers.
The plan comes several years after another firm proposed a massive development at the waterfront site.
Maryland-based K4 Associates pitched the $1.2 billion Liberty on the River, which would have featured nearly 2,000 residential units across 10 towers and a hotel between Washington Avenue and Reed Street.
K4 Associates planned to break ground in 2017, but the plan never followed through. K4 Philadelphia LLC still owns the property, but documents submitted to the city of Philadelphia identify Silverstein Properties as the developer.
