I remember in my childhood that the Gulf Building (center) was the tallest. It was completed in 1929, only four years after my Dad was born. It looked tall, but of course is dwarfed by today's skyscrapers. It remained the tallest (37 floors) until the ExxonMobil Bldg (then called the Humble Bldg) was finished around 1963. It has 44 floors.

I went to Houston in 1986. And then again in 2002. I have not been there since. I remember the enclosed air-conditioned parking garage connected to the hotel I stayed at. It had a Bennigans in it. My boss loved Benningans. It was hot as balls both times I visited. I saw ZZ Top there the first time. Robert Cray and the Fabulous Thunderbirds the second time.

If it's been over 20 years, you wouldn't recognize it at all. It's a very highrise city, with multiple highrise nodes that have built up a lot since then.
