Canmore is in the process of building a new fire hall just north of Hwy1 near Benchlands. Not only with it increase capacity/bays, but also provide more efficient responses to more areas in Canmore and the Bow Valley.
Construction Impacts - Updated June 7, 2021
Enabling works construction is underway. Enabling works consists of site preparation (tree clearing, grading), construction of access roads, street lighting, storm management infrastructure and cemetery parking. The following work has been completed or is in progress:

Cut and Fill is in progress
Parking lot at bottom of site has been removed
Road and cemetery parking construction is in progress
The cemetery will remain open during construction.
Background Information
The current fire hall located at the corner of Railway Avenue and 10th Street was built in 1986, at a time when the population was approximately 4,000. With our current population and tourism numbers, the facility presents challenges to the ability to fully serve fire and rescue service needs and there is no capacity to accommodate future growth.
Given its importance to the community, especially during community-wide emergencies, finding the most appropriate location requires careful analysis. Funding was approved in the 2018 budget to conduct a study to determine the most appropriate location(s) needed to provide fire and rescue services in Canmore over the long-term. The Fire Hall Study recommendation is that two fire halls with 12 apparatus bays are needed to provide fire and rescue services in Canmore over the long-term.
