I am very surprised we don't have a Downtown or COV location yet.

Some action in a closed SBux location this one at the entrance to Granville Island just in front of the newly opened Brooklyn Pizza.

I wouldn't be surprised if the COV slow-walked permits for an American fast food chain.

The suggestion that the Robson Cactus Club would be taken by Zefferellis expanding downstairs seems premature. It's for lease.

I would not be surprised to never see one. There are several other chain restaurants that can only be found in the burbs, for example Taco Bell.

Few have been mentioning Mary Brown's in the past but I wasn't quite that impressed when trying it in Guildford few weeks ago. I should probably give Jollibee also a chance once more locations open up.

I finally gave Mary Brown's a go in Port Moody, and thought it was decent. Nothing outstanding, but good for what it was.

I do here that Jollibee's fried chicken and mango pies are really good. The line-up on Granville has finally died down during weekdays. Another one is opening up at the corner of Cambie and Broadway.

One chicken joint I'm hearing a lot of good things about is Down Low Chicken. There's one on Commercial, but it's always so busy during lunch.

Vancouver ready for a summer of legal public drinking in some parks and plazas

Quote:
The Vancouver park board and City of Vancouver are setting up for a summer of drinking in select city parks and pop-up locations around the city.

On Monday, the park board will be asked to open 22 parks to public drinking between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. from June 3 to Oct. 16.

These are the same parks that were open last summer to alcohol consumption as part of a pilot project that was driven in part by social limits placed on people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

...

The 2021 pilot was considered a success — with little effect on law and order — and staff were directed by the board in February to come up with a plan for a second pilot and a vision for making the changes permanent. This is what the board will vote on on Monday.

The Boathouse Restaurant at Kits Beach and Tap Shack at Harbour Green Park in Coal Harbour are the only locations directly adjacent to a pilot site that are able to sell sealed alcohol.

According to the report, commercial operations staff have begun the process of applying for liquor licences at the park board operated concessions, but this will not be completed in time for this summer.

...

Rosa’s report pointed to the City of Vancouver’s pop-up public drinking program, which is in its third year.

Last month, council voted to continue the program that allows “alcohol consumption in select public plazas.”

In the March report that council supported, it was stated “two pilot seasons have demonstrated that there is a high degree of public and partner support for legal drinking in plazas, and have not raised any directly-connected health, safety, or nuisance issues.”

...

Their pastries are American-sized though.

Can’t be any worse than the crowd on at Davie and Hornby at 2am! Funny how Brekka has been successful at reconstituting the Bread Garden formula even though it was said Tim Hortons had killed that concept. Food at Brekka is much better than Timmy Hoes though.

Rocky Mountain Flatbread in Kits is throwing in the towel-I can see someone wanting the location for one of the few real wood burning ovens left in the city remember they're no longer allowed to be built.

https://www.kitsilano.ca/2022/05/20/...comment-182814

Rocky Mountain Flatbread has announced the closure of its Kitsilano location.

RMF will close the doors of its Kits restaurant on May 29th after serving the Kitsilano community for 16 years.

Quote:
Owners Suzanne & Dominic Fielden made the announcement by email today.

“During those 16 years we have literally made and served over a million pizzas from ingredients sourced from over 50 local farmers, donated thousands of meals to worthy causes, launched a brilliant frozen pizza brand and taught over 75,000 kids how to make their favourite pizza”.

The Georgia Straight had another part of their announcement "We are also going to further pursue opportunities and interests in community food security such as Suzanne’s EarthBites school garden program and Chef Oliver’s hydroponic farming. That can only be done by freeing up time in our lives and downsizing a bit."
