Ontario Place makeover to include outdoor adventure park, indoor spa and water park

Quote:
The new Ontario Place will include an indoor water park and spa, a revamped concert venue and an "adventure park," the province announced on Friday.

It also said the site's most iconic features and greenspace will be preserved.

Three companies were selected for the redevelopment, including Austrian company Therme — which specializes in waterparks and spas — as well the Quebec outdoor recreation firm Écorécréo. The third company, Live Nation, already operates the existing music venues on site.

The trio will "help deliver an exciting, inclusive and family friendly experience that will play a key role in the province's post-pandemic recovery, both as a tourism destination and as a display of Ontario's strong cultural identity," the province said in a news release.

First look at the plans for the Ontario Place make-over with 3 chosen partners: Live Nation, Therme Group and Écorécréo Group.
Cinesphere and the pods, the marina, Trillium Park and trails will all be retained/integrated.

Some early renders of the planned make-over.

The problem with Toronto tourist attractions is that they are extremely expensive. The ferry to Centre Island is ridiculous. The CN Tower admission is absurd. Ditto for Ripley's. The Zoo. The (decrepit) Science Centre. Don't get me started on the ROM (how is it a museum when you charge more than 200$ for a family)?

Everything is overpriced, and often underwhelming.

All attractions in the city i find overcrowded with long line-ups. making them cheaper would make the problem worst. The city needs more attractions in my opinion to spread out the demand more. hopefully the re-opening on Ontario place will take off the pressure from other attractions.

How will a spa be a strong display of Ontario’s cultural identity ?

While I agree the price is excessive, where did you get $200 from?

ROM general admission is $23 for adults, $18 for an older teen, $14 for a 14 and under child.

A family of 4 would be $46 for the adults, and at maximum $36 for the kids.

That's $82 not $200.

My recall of the prices is perhaps hazy, but I was taken back by sticker shock the last time I went (family of five, and with only 2.5 hours prior to closing, I hadn't expected such a tall bill). Anecdotally I find museum/attraction prices higher in Toronto than I did in my former hometown Montreal, but perhaps things have changed.

It's great to see an actual plan that's going ahead for this beloved attraction...albeit I hope there's some sense of unified design in each of these companies' plans, that together make a whole.

I'm unsure if they'll maintain having a theme park here, but I honestly hope so...it's a great thing to have in the city without taking a ferry or taking a car or bus to Vaughan.

I will say that Ontario Place was fairly priced until....2010 or so, when they racked up prices. It was very pleasant to visit in the mid 2000's.
