Architecture is a constantly evolving profession. Construction techniques and structural possibilities keep improving and changing. This pulls architecture in many directions. The influence behind these homes seems to be based on a revival of Frank Lloyd Wright, Corbusier, Mies, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. But these influences are being interpreted through the eyes of modernist, contemporary architects. I love seeing the profession (and Calgarians) evolve.

It just crossed my mind that if someone were to drive around and take pics of every single duplex triplex or mini condo building under construction at the moment the volume of pictures would be damn near dizzying

You're right, it is too much! Especially South Calgary/Marda Loop/Altadore and Elboya.

3 levels above grade seems to be the new normal for Parkhill.

This house fronts on to 33 Av and backs on to 34 Av and has one of the best views of the skyline from the south. I'm glad they didn't cut down the trees.

There were workers there today. There must be a behind the scenes drama about this house.

Parkhill 4plex by LUMIN8, on Flickr

The 4 plex is next to the townhouses on 42 Ave which are taking a long time to finish.

My favourite new Parkhill house is mainly finished and now for sale. There is a 3rd floor with a roof deck.
I heard the asking price is $7.2.

I like a lot of modern designs but I don't like that. Looks like a bunker or some sort of control tower or something.

lol, thats awesome!

That house seems too massive to me.

Speaking of houses that look like boats, is the Spiral House finished yet? from the side that one kinda looks like a tug boat lol.

D.I.V.O.R.C.E.!
The last I heard was that they didn't have an occupancy permit yet, but that was a few weeks ago. It looks like there are houseplants in the living room now so maybe someone has moved in.

The Second Street house looked better before they darkened the windows.
They must have applied a film to the glass to blacken the windows which makes it look ominous and grim.
There are no windows on the south side of the house which overlooks the Elbow Valley towards Stanley Park and there are no windows on the north side of the third floor which means they don't have at least a partial skyline view from up there. It seems both are lost opportunities.

Spiral House June 2014 by LUMIN8, on Flickr

I met the neighbours at a party and they are understandably irate that this has been allowed to continue for years. The abandoned house encroaches on their property and they are unable to sell their house.

I like how the skyline can be seen through the big windows. I was told the asking price is now $6.7 instead of the original 7.2.

I like these 2 houses, but I don't understand the layout for the lower level garages unless they are planning to put in a vehicle turntable.

Many of these 'modern' square houses look ugly as hell.
