In a perfect world, I would agree with you but capital is limited as it is so it doesn't make much sense to build express capacity for a line that we more than likely wont see completed within the next 20 years. ( also off the top of my head there are only 16 stops on the entire line so it wouldn't make financial sense to also have an express line run concurrently given the ridership projections as well as only connecting with the Q at and above 63rd and the B,D at Grand) IMO an argument for an express line would make more sense if the second avenue line was planned to have transfers to the 7 at 42nd, the L at 14th

^ yup.

it would be nice, but i dont think 2av needs express.

any extension will be crosstown on 125, not north, and thats a seperate service even if its the same line.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The implementation of the nation’s first congestion pricing plan has been pushed back several months in a move that MTA officials anticipate will cost the agency roughly $250 million in expected revenue.

Last week, the MTA released its February Financial Plan, which stated that revenue collection from congestion pricing is now expected to begin in the second quarter of 2024, meaning April 2024 would be the earliest that drivers are charged for driving into Manhattan’s Central Business District.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Staten Island Railway (SIR) riders will soon get their first chance to ride the new train cars coming to the borough’s lone line.

A representative from the MTA told the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com that five prototype R211S train cars recently arrived in New York City, with the agency set to begin non-passenger testing later this month.

The MTA will provide tolling discounts to some low-income drivers, cap daily tolls for taxis, and invest more than $200 million to mitigate localized increases in traffic and air pollution under an agreement with the federal government allowing it to implement congestion pricing, the agency announced on Friday.

Fare evasion cost MTA nearly $700M last year, panel says, recommending new turnstile design

The MTA lost nearly $700 million to fare evasion last year and should replace subway turnstiles with glass doors, an agency panel said in a long-awaited report.

The agency’s estimated losses from farebeating have climbed considerably in just a few years, from about $200-300 million before the pandemic, to $500 million last year, and now $690 million, said MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber on Wednesday, including $315 million on city buses and $285 million on subways.

Those renderings were released last year... not sure why they didn't get posted in this thread... at least I can't find them.

They're okay. They've made a sincere effort to make modern stylish station experiences. I could quibble about some minor things but I wo.... OKAY I will! Dear MTA, please stop it with all the state motto and imagery stuff! It's heavy handed and honestly a little weird. And side note, why are we still having new MTA rolling stock delivered with the horrible Cuomo stripes after the dude is gone??? That should have been an easy one. It is the most direct evidence of his micromanaging of the MTA and they're apparently fine with that legacy? Pick up the phone and tell the factory to stop it with the decals. It's like if Biden had just allowed the previous monster's Air Force One paint scheme to go through to production and then say "whoops, I guess its too late now?"

New record set for fastest trip through entirety of NYC subway

New York City’s subway has 472 stations laid out across 665 miles of track. For decades, transit enthusiasts have jockeyed to set the record for the fastest time to travel through the whole system.

Last month, Kate Jones, a New Yorker now living in Switzerland, set a new standard. She completed the journey in 22 hours, 14 minutes and 10 seconds. Her time was certified last week by Guinness World Records.

The terminal is designed to achieve water savings of more than 43% and an 18% reduction in energy costs. Energy and greenhouse gas emission reductions were achieved through reduced window glazing area, installation of a light-colored aluminum membrane roof that reflects solar heat and reduces summer cooling loads, lower lighting power density, deployment of daylighting controls to adjust artificial lighting levels in response to sunlight, and use of solar hot water heaters.

‘A magnificent victory’: Rockaway elected officials announce breakthrough with MTA in step toward railroad equity

Generations of Far Rockaway residents have been plagued with some of the longest commute times in the nation along with additional expenses, but on May 4, state Senator James Sanders and his colleagues in government announced a breakthrough.

The MTA has agreed to expand its CityTicket program to finally include the Far Rockaway LIRR station allowing commuters to purchase $5 flat-fare tickets for off-peak hours for intracity trips. Sanders, who has pressed for Far Rockaway’s inclusion in the program for more than a decade when he was on the City Council, was able to get his proposal into the Senate One House Budget resolution this year as a negotiating position.

QueensLink hosts Ozone Park town hall to discuss plans for old Rockaway Beach line

About 50 community members attended the QueensLink town hall in Ozone Park on March 16 to discuss plans for the dormant 3.5 miles Rockaway Beach train line that would bring accessible transportation to transit desert communities.

Volunteers of QueensLink heard community feedback on how to best meet residents’ needs for transit and more park space for the infrastructure project.
