FYI that proposal over on Fremont SE of North and Halsted is about to start.

Site is fenced off, Temp power service is set up, revving crane is on site but not set up, and it looks like a heap of (pile of?) piles is on site ready to be driven.

Edit: the project along Blackhawk at Fremont.

^ Not mentioned above in that thread for 1200 W Fulton is the fact that the same developer states in this article that they're finalizing funding for their 1201 W Fulton project which is a new 34 story building with over 400 apartments. They're also close to apparently landing a big office tenant for a part of a project nearby too.

They state groundbreaking for 1201 W Fulton is expected in May.

Yes it is. The construction noise over the last two days have been insane but its so dang cool watching this from the beginning from my apartment. The redesign also looks so much better than the original version.

^ Nice. We need more construction in other areas than the W Loop

(although I'm thrilled by what's happening in the W Loop as well!)

Is the 10-story building considered a high-rise?

According to Chicago Building Code, a high rise building is a building greater than 80 feet in height. Not sure how other bodies define a high rise.

edit: syntax

Samesies in LA - LADBS categorizes highrises based on height minimum, which I believe is anything taller than 75 feet. On the forums, we generally define highrise as anything 12+ stories. That's mostly used for dedicated building threads in the highrise construction or proposals subforums.

I thought the official definition was 11 stories or greater than 100 or 110 feet in height..at least the one that's used across world cities as a standard.

Regardless, looking at the drawing it shows that the very top of the building is 120 feet so by all purposes, this thing will be technically a high rise.
