That's awesome! Great brand and a score for Walnut Street. They opened in KOP mall in 2020 and have been killing it.

Hopefully this isn't a flop. Darrel Clarke's comment are irritating though. He is concerned about traffic impacts...

New details emerge for Stephen Starr's Center City restaurant Bankroll: 400 seats, three bars, and more

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel...Pos=0#cxrecs_s

"Stephen Starr’s restaurant group continued its push for a new concept that is part of forthcoming entertainment-and-sports-betting space Bankroll at a virtual Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing on Tuesday."

"More details were revealed about the planned 1910 Chestnut St. restaurant, which requires a zoning special exception to move forward. The 18,000-square-foot project is planned to boast approximately 400 seats across three bars and slightly more than 100 tables"

"the Center City Residents Association is “overwhelmingly in favor” of Bankroll being granted the zoning variance it needs, said President Richard Gross. That is largely due to a memorandum of agreement with Bankroll that includes a clause explicitly stating that Bankroll will not apply to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for a casino license that would allow on-site gaming."

"The city also has “a traffic problem” even without a 400-seat Bankroll, Clarke added, noting he’s concerned about who has the authority to monitor the impact of the project." - Clarke.

"The memorandum also notes that Bankroll will close no later than 2 a.m. nightly, never have more than 490 people in the building at once, and will hire a security team, which is not a typical feature of a Starr restaurant."

So I guess Clarke would just prefer shutting down anything that would potentially draw more people into the city? It is kind of a nutty excuse... lol

Worried about something that’s going to draw people INTO the city??? Holy fuck Darrell Clarke, you really are a scourge on this city.

Wow, that's dumb. That's how big cities, density, and economics work and traffic really??? I guess he never heard of UBER or cabs or the like or what makes a city lively.

As if anyone should be surprised about the stuff that comes out of Darrel Clarke's mouth.

I for one am appalled at putting a new restaurant in the densest part of the city. Absolutely sickening /s

If Clarke is that worried about traffic, start putting some time in on public transit issues. The solution to this issue should not be to stop looking upwards. Build the infrastructure we need.

He really is. I can't wait for the day when he is out of the picture (not a threat, lol).

I initially thought is this how he feels whenever a new hotel or store opens in Center City? There is far more traffic associated with the new Four Seasons or W than a high-end sports bar. What a kook.
The Commissioners of suburban Aston Township are more forward thinking than him, which is sad...

But back to the project, I hope this works out into a cool destination venue that doesn't bring trouble, good that they will have a trained security team.

Bingo! But that approach is too logical.

I was a little concerned about that at first as well, but I imagine it’ll be a pretty top shelf venue with Starr involved. London surprisingly has several small casinos in some of their best neighborhoods. They tend to be pretty upscale and don’t seem to cause too much trouble at all really.

Darryl Clarke is older than he appears (69) and he thinks the way you'd expect a baby boomer to think (even though he's younger than a boomer). He was always in that (John) Street camp that wanted to redevelop North Philadelphia as an urban suburb.

On most issues he's insufferable.

Hopefully he'll retire soon. He's probably itching to move to Delaware ASAP anyway. Then he can live in his car dependent dream.

I’ve sat in on a few community meetings where he spoke and surprisingly didn’t mind him. Although, he seems like a stick in the mud with these issues...

He IS a baby boomer (anyone born between 1946 and 1964) and, as a fellow baby boomer, I can assure you that MANY baby boomers do not think like that (e.g., all the empty nesters moving back into the city).

I stand corrected. Many don't think like that.

The rest are busy overturning democracy and implementing a fascist christian future for this county.

Under his eye.

Or, just as bad, idly standing by and allowing it to happen.

Although, if voter turnout among Millennials and Gen-Z'ers were generally as high as it is among Boomers and Seniors, things might be a bit better. Hopefully, they'll turn out in big numbers this year and in 2024.

Eh, millennials are much worse. I am one and haven’t been around them as much for the last few years. Never been happier. Been through the ringer with us and am frankly exhausted. Sorry millennials...

It’s funny, when I bring this up with other millennials, they never refute it. We’ve all been dealing with one another personally I suppose. Frankly, would be more than happy to be proven otherwise.

Its becoming apparent it’s not so much about youth turnout anymore. Dems have a horrible working class problem. They already lost the old rust belt working class and desperately need to shore up the Hispanic vote in which they’re hemorrhaging right now otherwise the VA 2021 election will start becoming the norm.

You’re starting to see the pivot happening amongst D leadership, but it might be too little too late for midterms.

(I won’t say too much about myself here, but my family has been involved with this kind of polling for generations.)
