Article about steel plate being used

This particular steel plant (in PA, they're not using imported) also made the steel for the World Trade Center - which, as we know, was able to withstand severe degradation before collapse.

Another piece that gets it right. It will be fourth tallest at best.

The 1.7 million square feet of One Vanderbilt is expected to make it New York City’s fourth-tallest building, reaching 1,401 feet by its 2020 completion target.

That's a weird way to phrase it... square footage really has no direct correlation with height.

Agreed NYguy. That earlier discussion regarding interest rates was getting right boring. Construction talks. Love the photo updates for those of us who can't see it in person everyday.

1401 ft tall and only 68 floors. Big spire or high span floors?

It's right on par with all of the other supertall office towers going up in town.

I think 68 was the old, taller version, we've been seeing a 58 floor figure thrown around lately.

To answer your question the floors are massive plus there is a large architectural element on top which itself is topped by a spire.

^ Still high relative to older, classic office tower construction.

Also, just looking at some of the supertall office towers under construction in this very forum will give you an idea.

Went by the other day and saw this written on the Work in Progress sign. Was this any of you guys?

Someone wrote "eye sore" on the sign. Underneath it, someone else replied "we love it <3"

I can totally sympathize with someone not wanting to live next to a skyscraper.. but why the hell is that person living in NYC?

If you don't want to see a tall building then move to the other 99.9% of the country that doesn't have supertall skyscrapers nearby.

Well, how do you know that person lives there. He or she can be living anywhere in NYC, the three state area, any other place in the US or even abroad and was just visiting.

And anyway, I don't now why everyone assumed that person doesn't like skyscrapers in general, maybe doesn't just like THAT skyscraper. Or maybe the eyesore is the PanAm Building?

But just in case you are wondering, no, it wasn't me... I've never been to NY.

Also could be that the one writing "we love it <3" did it first and then another person replied with "eye sore"

I kind of like the discourse!

It would be cool if there was a public forum where people could express their opinions about new buildings going up....
