Thanks! Appreciate the correction, picture, and historical context.

Yeah...I hear you...Jeweler's Row in particular to your insinuation.
But, I feel this one would take more than a herculean effort to be demolished. IMO, it just wouldn't happen under normal circumstances...

Some jewelry makers or other artisans were first working out of the building.[/QUOTE]

It amazes me how massive these old department stores were and that there were so many of them. The streets must have been packed.

Downtown was packed, especially at Christmas. The corner of 8th and Market was a kids dream as Lits, Gimbels and Strawbridges had elaborate window displays and Christmas villages inside the stores.

Awesome pictures TK! The first one especially. I love that detailed sea of rooftops running up to Center City.

Another boring glass box. But, according to the brochure, all it needs is someone to lease up 75k for it to break ground.

So - PMC Property still owns that land as far as I can tell (checked the City's website), so PMC hired that firm to begin marketing the spot?

Seems far-fetched to me 75,000 sq ft alone gets a ...what, 30-35 foot tower at 18,500 SF/per floor built. That's only like 4 floors leased. Who knows though??

I did not know that Gimbels Department store was a national chain. I thought Gimbels was a local Pittsburgh department store similar to Kaufmann's and Horns.

Great building. Hope it gets built.

Has SEPTA ever thought about building a new station between 15th and 30th St? That area is very restricted from transportation despite being so central.

So wait is this part of the River Walk development? What lot is this? The renders are a bit confusing.

That location is surprising but pretty awesome. Definitely gonna be creating that river canyon effect.

^ It does look like the building is on both sides of the tracks. Either the Trader Joe’s lot or the sliver next to Riverwalk. However, the video on the website makes it clear that it is a triangular-ish wedge between the tracks and JFK Boulevard on the north side, directly across from the PECO building.

Yes one render appears north side, one render appears south. But there is in fact a small sliver of space between the tracks and JFK blvd. Perhaps it's going there?

Right here, basically: https://goo.gl/maps/KpAQrDXVXGgMJSnx5

Huh? You're right about the location but I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from - both renders show the building south of the tracks on the small sliver of land between JFK and the tracks.

Incredible! Build it! That’s gotta be over 400ft.

Good way to ring in the new year. McGrath, create a thread!

Look at the leading brochure or the video on the website. The site is indeed the sliver of land between the train tracks and JFK BLVD.
