Nanaimo and Prince George at 3 each now.
Prince Rupert zero.

Fort St James, population 1,600 and not to be mistaken for Fort St John, is at two.

Two people stabbed to death in Ottawa's south end last night. A third was injured. Suspect was shot dead by police. Sounds like a domestic incident.

Murder suicide in Peachland Monday.

Also not really a homicide, but Saanich Police shot and killed 2 suspects in a BMO robbery yesterday morning, 6 officers were also seriously injured during the shootout of 40 to 50 bullets.
A neighbourhood shelter_in_place was lift a few hours later after a third suspect wasn't found.

It wasn't a domestic incident. Neighbour kid with mental health issues who stalked a girl.

Twin brothers who attempted armed robbery were identified in the Victoria shooting, both died - what is the homicide number for Victoria this year?
Is it considered a homicide when the police do the killing?

VICTORIA — Twin brothers in their early 20s were responsible for the shooting that injured numerous police officers at a bank in Saanich, B.C., earlier this week, RCMP alleged Saturday. Mounties spokesman Cpl.

Are you sure, is it still counted as a homicide statistic?

Homicide, not murder.

Just saw Hamilton's police budget is only $183 million this year while Winnipeg's is $320 million. Both very similar sized cities but Winnipeg obviously with much more deep rooted socio economic issues.

I imagine that many criminals gravitate towards Toronto, especially the drug gangs that cause many (most?) homicides. I'm just speculating, though.

^ It is interesting though, because Hamilton does have a reputation for being a somewhat gritty town not entirely unlike Winnipeg. But the homicide numbers couldn't be much farther apart. Going by those, Hamilton seems downright idyllic.

Hamilton feels more like the sort of UK-style, get in a fight after the pub closes kind of city. Homicide rates are really not goosed by that, although those places still can feel edgy. High homicide rates come from drug dealers in constant disputes.

Winnipeg, like Edmonton, is on the edge of civilization in many regards, with many social/dependency/abuse/gang/lack of supports that get downloaded from those coming in from the north; frontier cities in many regards versus Hamilton and its location.

Transient cities and stopover cities for folks with money coming from remote worksites tend to have more of these issues.
