as described on previous page...

Saskatoon's 2,000 seat TCU Place Auditorium was built in the early 1970's and is host to Saskatoon Symphony & to touring concerts and shows including Broadway shows.

(I'm going to see multiple Tony Award nominee & Grammy nominee Waitress in December, The show also opened in London's Adelphi Theatre earlier this year.)

TCU Place's twin Auditorium is the Connexus Arts Centre in Regina, also with 2,000 seats & located on it's own peninsula in Wascana Park,
It's home to Canada's longest continuously running Symphony Orchestra, The Regina Symphony.

Before Connexus Arts Centre, ~600 seat Darke Hall, also in Wascana Park but on College Dr was home to the Symphony. It was recently restored and includes two pipe organs, one on each side of the stage.

Regina's Globe Theatre is located in Regina's old City Hall downtown and does theatre in-the-round, a local production of Beauty & the Beast is current sold out.

Casino Regina's Theatre houses touring shows & performances. My husband & I are going to see UB40, a 1980's reggae pop group from the UK in September there.

Not part of Casino Regina, but it's linked to Sask Trade & Convention Centre & Cornwall Centre across the street.

Castle Theatre at Aden Bowman Collegiate (first image below) and Greystone Theatre, Drama Department at U of S in Saskatoon are Ed Institutional theatre in Saskatchewan.
University of Regina Theatre (second image below) is another one.

Other performance arts theatres in Saskatoon and at about 500 seats each, include Persephone Theatre at Remai Arts Centre, & also home of Saskatoon Opera.

Imperial Theatre - Saint John

The pics I could find online really don't do justice to the beautifully restored interior. It's a wonderful venue that seats approximately 900.

Originally built in 1913, the theatre was sold and converted to a Full Gospel Assembly church in the 1950s. Facing an uncertain future in the early '80s, the building was purchased by a forward-thinking group of citizens who were successful in raising the funds to undertake a decade-long restoration. The Imperial re-opened as a full-fledged entertainment venue in 1994.

The Imperial is the last surviving theatre of several that once graced the perimeter of King's Square. The Odeon and Paramount cinema houses sadly fell to demolition over the years and are now surface parking lots.

Palace Theatre in Calgary is a great concert venue, love how they refurbished the building from a theatre to an event venue.

Here's an interesting article about Palace Theatre and images from back when it was a movie house and it's history in Alberta politics before converting to “a modern-day hybrid version of the interactive sports bar.”

https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...palace-theater

Reminds me a lot of the Coors Event Centre in Saskatoon which was similarly repurposed from being a movie theatre turned into a night club/concert venue.

Main stage area with mosh pit and seating behind & additional seating on the upper balcony.

I don't have any decent images of Coors Event Centre but you can get a bit of an idea of the space from the live action shots from the website main page...

Great thread! I was surprised the stadium receives so much more contribution when for many years theatres were how cities proved they had "arrived"

In that vein, here's Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre. A bit of an ungainly creation conceived of at a time when it was felt live theatre would have to complete with VistaVision etc on the screen. Hence an incredibly wide stage that almost no touring show can fill properly. A renovation by Vancouver's own Proscenium Architecture helped modernize the interior in 2008. 2,929 seats, designed by Montreal's Affleck, Desbarats, Dimakopoulos, Lebensold, Sise

As built (1959)

Note: anyone in interested in theatre architecture, particularly in this era, should track down "The Opera House" a documentary about the creating the Metropolitan Opera House in Lincoln Centre: http://www.playbill.com/article/pbs-...et-opera-house

Ok I know this isn't a Canadian theatre but I thought I'd post one of my most favorite theatres I've ever been to, and this with so many London theatres to choose from that I marvel at with all their history...

The 1,750 seat Tobin Centre for Performing Arts in San Antonio has one of the most fascinating innovations following its renovations in 2014.

I was really pleased to see that the vacant Hollywood Theatre on West Broadway has a new coat of paint. Likely in preparation for the site's launch as condominiums, with the theatre retained. The most amazing thing about this theatre was the same family had owned it since it opened in 1935 till closure in 2011. It was like walking into a time capsule.

Virden, Manitoba (pop. 3,100, located 3 hours west of Winnipeg, 1 hour west of Brandon) has a nice 500 seat concert hall that is over 100 years old. Definitely a rare amenity for small towns around here.

Happy long weekend
what an great thread, I really love that theatre in Virden.
My Aunt and Uncle are big fans of Jann Arden, a singer author Canadian tv host, and they're seeing her in Yorkton Saskatchewan this month or next month or something. But they won't have to cross over into Sask and probably live closer to Virden anyway and it probably has just as big a theatre.

Now that I look at it, the Yorkton theatre has like 800 seats, so slightly larger, but that Virden theatre looks a hell of a lot nicer probably.
Jann Arden did a BC tour this last month, but my parents opted for seeing her in Salmon Arm later this year.

The Kings Theatre in Annapolis Royal, NS. The population of Annapolis Royal is 491 (2016) and the theatre seats 220. This building was built in 1922 though theatrical performances began in the area in 1606, the first European theatrical performance in North America outside of New Spain.
