Mint House New Orleans Riverside to Open in November

NEW ORLEANS — New York-based hospitality company Mint House is opening a new property, the Mint House New Orleans-Riverside, this November at 315 Girod Street.

Mint House is a “tech-forward” hospitality concept featuring apartment-style accommodations that resemble short-term rental options “with the amenities of a five-star hotel,” according to a press release. Mint House rooms include kitchens and laundry equipment along with “boutique” workout facilities, on-site security and an option for pre-stocked groceries.

Riverside is a set of 15 “design-forward” apartments housed in a converted warehouse. Units range from one to three bedrooms. Each guest will have an in-room MIRROR and the ability to shop in-room products directly from their phone. There is a rooftop lounge.

Mint House said it plans to add 3,000 units across 30 markets within the next 12 months.

A big name in the world of video games is starting a New Orleans studio

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...88feea63e.html

New Orleans' budding video-game sector is set for a big boost, with one of the industry's most celebrated entrepreneurs starting a new gaming studio in the city with the promise of 75 local jobs paying an average of $100,000 a year each.

There are few bigger names in digital gaming than Jeff Strain, who founded and sold two video-game companies over the last two decades, and who is starting his latest studio — Possibility Space — on Poydras Street in the Central Business District.

The move is a coup for economic development agencies GNO Inc. and Louisiana Economic Development, which have assiduously courted Strain at his former base in Seattle for more than five years.

Great to see another video game company setting up shop. Based on the photos, looks like they are going to be located in the Pan American Life building.

The biggest win is this will be the corporate headquarters. That means we'll get more than just coders here. We'll also have the creative, financial, and sales departments located in New Orleans. Great news all around!

McDonnel starts work on a 10 story low income housing project. Glad to be part of a much needed development.

The last big eyesore in the east with no redevelopment plans is the old office building next to Liberty Bank and the new STEM NOLA headquarters. The building is on the verge of collapse after Ida. Of course, the whole former Plaza mall site is a prime spot for redevelopment. Census shows 75,000 people living in the east. Definitely a need for more services in that area despite the lower household incomes.

Seems to me there are just a few more things that can be done to make the east look aesthetically pleasing from the interstate which is a good start.

Six flags project helps but they could definitely add some soundwalls on the part of the interstate that goes through the neighborhood past the former holiday inn and also demolish parking lots and any abandoned buildings left in old plaza mall site or where the wal mart and sams club were pre katrina. Besides that I think they have a great foundation to build from .. also focusing regional retail in one corridor will help. the rest need to be housing or other amenities meant just for the local area or large parks with a stormwater management element to them.

Is this for that pretty apartment building that will take up half the block?

Anyone know what's going on in the parking lot/old house next to District on Magazine? They moved that old house up to the street, I think I remember a few years ago modern infill in that parking lot.

It might be a fire department thing. The easiest way to do a fire lane is a straight shot through the site. Trying to incorporate turns or a dead-end is massively wasteful of space.

It would appear that both access points have a gate, so drivers will not be able to zoom out at full speed.
