CANMNT Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinal Roster Announced
canadasoccer.com November 8, 2023

Canada Soccer announced today their Men’s National Team squad for the crucial Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals away-and-home series against Jamaica. The aggregate score winner will join three other nations and advance to the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League Final. A series win will also qualify Canada for the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024™.

“I’m really excited about the upcoming matches and what they can lead our team to,” said Mauro Biello, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Interim Head Coach. “Our mission is to make it to the Concacaf Final and also to qualify for next year’s Copa America. We know that these upcoming two matches will be difficult against a solid opponent, in difficult conditions, so that is why we decided on an experienced and seasoned group of players who are used to high pressure games.”

Canada will begin the series away in Kingston, Jamaica on Friday 17 November (19.00 ET / 16.00 PT) at the National Stadium before travelling back home to Toronto for their second match on Tuesday 21 November (19.30 ET / 16.30 PT) at BMO Field.

Tickets for the all-important Canada v Jamaica second leg in Toronto are available now, starting at just $22.50, plus applicable fees. Fans can take advantage of the special “ME+3” offer featuring four tickets for the price of three in select price categories. In addition, groups of 10+ are eligible for discounts of up to 30%. Find complete ticket information here.

Canada holds an all-time record of 10 wins, seven draws and six losses against Jamaica. The last time the two nations faced off was on 3 March 2022, with the 4:0 win qualifying Canada to its first men’s FIFA World Cup in 36 years.

Both of Canada’s matches will be broadcast live on OneSoccer, available as a linear channel on Telus’ Optik TV (Channel 980) as well as online at OneSoccer.ca, through the OneSoccer app and on the fuboTV Canada platform. Fans will find extended coverage for the matches across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CANMNT.

Crucial win tonight. With Mexico's loss to Honduras there would be a real threat Canada would have to face them for a spot and I don't like those odds. Would be very exciting to see Canada up against Brazil and/or Argentina and see how they stack before 2026.

If Tajon went to Man City for a couple of years he could win some trophies but then he might barely play, like Kalvin Phillips. Far more likely to play at Inter but man, the lure of playing in the EPL and winning trophies can't be understated.

Tajon Buchanan to Inter looking to be a done deal, just needs official confirmation.

Liam Millar is becoming a fan favourite at Preston North End. Fantastic goal to end the highlight reel of his good play vs Leeds United.

John Herdman was responsible for all the success the Men's National Team has had in the last few years. However, Soccer Canada put an end to that, as their goal is to make Team Canada as horrible as possible.

So they let Herdman walk.

Technically not the first "Canadian" to play in Serie A, there have been a few others. He is the first CMNT player.

Tajon Buchanan: Inter Milan sign Club Brugge winger as first Canadian in Serie A
Inter Milan's new signing Tajon Buchanan is a versatile player who can operate on the wing or at full-back'
BBC Sport January 5 2024

Winger Tajon Buchanan has joined Inter Milan from Club Brugge, and is set to become the first Canadian to play in Serie A, Italy's top division.

The 24-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal for a reported fee of seven million euros (£6.02m).

Buchanan has won 35 caps for Canada and started all three of his country's group games at the 2022 World Cup.

"I'm really proud to be the first Canadian to play in the Italian league, it's a great achievement," he said.

"I've been following Inter for a long time, it's a team I see myself in, I'm really excited about what awaits me."

Inter started 2024 top of Serie A and host Hellas Verona in their next game on Saturday (11:30 GMT). (Buchanan likely not to play, may be in Belgium clearing paperwork)

In his short stint as Portland Timbers' coach, former CMNT assistant coach Phil Neville has brought in CMNTers Kamal Miller (defender), and keepers James Pantemis and now Maxime Crepeau to join defender Zac McGraw already with the club.

A couple of Canadians named Theo are making the news presently. After just arriving for La Liga's Grenada FC, Theo Corbeanu sees his first action (subbed in at 63') while his team was down to ten men in a 1-1 tie with Las Palmas.

Motherwell's Theo Bair is tied for 8th in the SPL's scoring lead, just one away from 6th

WC schedule released today.

I’d say Vancouver outperformed expectations getting 5 Group games, 2 knockout games including one R16 game and one R32 game, and at minimum two CanMNT games. Maybe more if Canada makes it to the R32 and R16

The baseline was just 5 Group stage games, so well done.

^very much so and will certainly be a showcase city for much of it.

Hoping to go to 2-3 games; thinking:

Kansas City or Dallas - never been

A good week for Canadian soccer players:

Tajon Buchanan made his debut for Inter Milan (and looked lively),
Theo Bair is tied for third in scoring for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership
Jonathan David scored three (almost four) for Lille in a game in Ligue 1
Charles-Andreas Brym scored two for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie
Ike Ugbo (Sheffield Wednesday) scored two in an English Championship game

Liam Millar (Preston North End) and Ismael Kone (Watford) acknowledged to be near the best players on their respective English Championship teams, Millar may be getting Premiership looks while Watford and Serie A Udinese transfer players between them (Kone to Udinese)

Soon to be eclipsed by Davies move to FC Barcelona this summer!

The boys performance in the WC qualifiers (less so the WC) got them a lot of attention and now playing time in big European markets. It's going to be a much more seasoned and mature bunch in '26. Not sure why anyone is suggesting Canada Soccer's failings is going to affect the quality on the field?? We had one of the youngest teams in Qatar and all of those players are seemingly getting better with time!
