Well, if Grand Haven ever builds a 2,000' tower on its beach, you might be able to overcome the curvature of the earth to barely see a sliver edge of Milwaukee out on the horizon across the lake, but you'd also need ridiculously clear air as well.

Let's all hope Grand Haven builds a 2,000' skyscraper

It has a thriving downtown and surrounding neighborhoods and is a magnet for Midwestern Millenials that don't want the full hustle and bustle of Chicago. Pretty much all the neighborhoods within 2 miles of the lake are fantastic, even Bayview, which was as recently as 10 years ago mostly a sleepy blue collar area, has been totally tranformed. The marina development Michaels is building down there looks like something you'd see on the waterfront in Rotterdam or Oslo.

Milwaukee also has an extremely progressive political tradition rooted in old school German beer halls socialism. It's still a very "communal" culture in Wisconsin. People rally around family and community and there's a lot less of the left vs right hostility among the extremely nice people that live there. All this results in a lot more common sense urban planning and political policies from City Hall.

For example, the city uses its powers to raise bonds to actually subsidize quality developments by raising bonds and then lending to developers. They encourage tall buildings with quality design. They push the "creme city" aesthetic by encouraging designs to incorporate white. They are very agressive with reversing post war planning mistakes working to make streets more pedestrian friendly and even embarking on a campaign of freeway spur demolitions.

I believe I remember reading that there would be a line of sight between the top of the Chicago Spire and Firstar (US Bank) building in Milwaukee despite them being 90 miles apart.

^ Great observations about Milwaukee. I think I also have seen somewhere that it’s essentially the most centralized Midwest city outside of Chicago, so that keeps wealth and investment flowing inward. It’s proximity to Chicago, as you mention, also probably helps a lot

The first tall building south of the highway. Will give a canyon look to the highway when driving down it. Interesting. Never expected the skyline to expand south for some reason. So cool that it is. I grew up Milwaukee county in the 90s, its great to see the skyline improving

That would be cool omg! Reminds me of Colorado where you can see Pikes Peak from the top of Longs Peak, which is 100 miles distance

The apartment high-rise planned for Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward just won a key approval. Construction is to start in May.
Tom Daykin
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

A 295-unit upscale apartment high-rise planned for Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward has won a key approval after its parking structure design was revised.

The Historic Third Ward Architectural Review Board on Wednesday granted a certificate of appropriateness for the 32-story building, to be developed on the Milwaukee River at North Water Street and East St. Paul Avenue.

Known as 333 N. Water, construction is to begin in May — pending city zoning approval.

The $140 million project would take 22 months to construct, according to its developer, Houston-based Hines Acquisitions LLC.

Talking

Didn't realize this was Hines, nice to seem the confidence in the Milwaukee market from a marquee developer...

Was just in Milwaukee last week and the city feels increasingly vibrant. Projects like this and Couture will really drive that home...

I went by the area on 333 N Water St it looks like it has started construction or is site prepping? I see the construction vehicles there at the parking lot site.

^ yeah, after perusing SSC, it sounds like this one is in site prep as perimeter sheet piling is being driven in around the site.

Proper foundation construction is probably just around the corner!

Snappy-looking addition to a surprisingly vibrant Midwest city.

Nice, conspicuous location, too.

Beautiful tower! Milwaukee seems to pump out beautiful architecture from this and ascent MKE to couture, albeit couture is a bit of an old design.

^ thanks for the recent photo update, Tom

with this one getting very close to official U/C, half of milwuakee's 20 tallest buildings will have been built in the 21st century.

the skyline has essentially doubled over the past 2 decades; not too shabby at all for a modest old rust-belter.

Top 20 tallest buildings in milwaukee in the not too distant future:

1. U.S. Bank Center ----------------- 601' - 1973
2. Northwestern Mutual Tower - 554' -2017
3. Couture ------------------------- 537' - 2023 - U/C
4. 100 East Wisconsin -------------- 495' - 1989
5. University Club Tower -------- 446' -2007

6. Milwaukee Center ---------------- 426' - 1988
7. 411 East Wisconsin -------------- 408' - 1985
8. 7Seventy7 --------------------- 387' - 2018
9. Kilbourn Tower --------------- 380' - 2005
10. Milwaukee City Hall ------------ 353' - 1895

11. Northwestern Mutual Tower --- 349' - 1990
12. The Moderne ---------------- 348' - 2013
13. 333 N Water ----------------- 342' - 2024 - SITE PREP
14. BMO Harris Center ---------- 335' - 2020
15. AT&T Center -------------------- 313' - 1924

16. Chase Tower -------------------- 288' - 1961
17. Ascent ------------------------ 284' - 2022
18. BMO Harris Bank Building ----- 277' - 1969
19. Hilton Milwaukee --------------- 274' - 1927
20. Potawatomi Casino --------- 264' - 2014

How do I post a photo from iPad photo section? I don’t know where to find a URL. I just took a photo at the site from my iPad. Why it is so difficult to post a photo? I used to do that on any forum on a normal lap top computer. But iPad or iPhone it is such harder to paste or copy and post without using URL method? I just snap the site and it goes to my picture file.

If you want to upload a photo from your external device to skyscraper page, I would use Imgur.
I'm not sure if there's an easier way, I assume there is but here's how I do it. First, connect your device to your computer and upload the file there.

For instance, If I've taken a photo from my phone, tablet, etc... You can either share the photo to the cloud, connect ur external device to your laptop via USB to upload your tablet photos from there, or other options if you have them. The goal is to have the photo from your tablet transferred to your main computer.

Then, you just insert the photo onto imgur by either dragging the file or selecting a file to upload.

For example, I want to upload this photo to imgur:

Go to Imgur and click this:

Upload your photo from there and it should pop up.

Then, right-click the image and click copy image link. It won't work if you click "copy link" on the imgur website.

Then, just click the little image icon:

and paste the link.

It's unfortunate that this forum software is old so I have to resort to this, but it shouldn't take only about 30-10 seconds if your snappy with it. If anyone has a better way of doing it I'd be glad to hear.

Testing to see if photo upload? Am trying to upload from a iCloud I don’t see anything in preview to see it load the photo? I find that Apple have not fix this method that it should have been this easy for everyone. I shouldn’t have to transfer my photos to my laptop to go to skyscraper page to load photo. My laptop is soooo old from the 2008-09 era. I have not used laptop that much anymore.
