Unhappy Fort Lauderdale’s iconic rain tree will be moved to make way for twin towers

This sounds risky to me. I hope other cities don't try something similar just to build skyscrapers.
"The famed 100-foot-tall rain tree that has sparked a decade of impassioned debate will be moved to a spot closer to the New River to make way for a $500 million high-rise project in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

City commissioners approved the developer’s request late Wednesday night despite years of protest from those who love the tree and fear it will die if moved..."

That's what I was wondering or is it at all possible to uproot it and replant it elsewhere?

How does one move a 100' million pound tree? And preserve enough of the root system to ensure it actually will survive in a new location?

Looks like every other new development in South Florida. I say save the tree...Ft. Lauderdale will be fine without two more ugly condo towers.

The tree will be moved to another lot closer to the tower, after the tree is moved the building will begin construction. The tree is not going away, no need to worry.

Here is progress:

The tree is beautiful, but if the city wants to preserve it they should buy the land and make a park. If the tree is on private land, then the owner can and should be able to do whatever they want.
