Was there an existing parkade of some kind under this structure? Old school rail connection? What does that look like today?

They excavated under the front surface parking lot for new expanded underground parking and storage space.
The parking will also be on upper middle floors of the building - thy are building a circular parking ramp in the middle of the building.

According to the development permit report there will be two plus levels of underground parking, and above grade parking on levels 5 and 6. There's also a fairly complex below grade loading area for the retail and office uses.

Which was even more complex when residential was part of this proposal.

Couple of quick shots of mine from this morning. First one shows the circular ramp going up to the parking. You can make out the forms for the next level, just below the first row of brown tiles, so getting fairly far along. Second shot is from Dunsmuir, where they’re knocking out at least some of the blank wall that faces the street. Will make a big difference to this block to open that up.

Not on that side of the building, but there was until a few years ago a tunnel connecting the post office to Waterfront Station. It's since been filled in.

I just noticed that the glass on the Georgia side in the old facade is new.
(Note the green spandrel panels mid-window)

Thanks!
It's surprising that the demolition doesn't vibrate the heck out of the panels and glass above!

This may be a dumb question, but are there plans to reclad the podium? Or is it going to be pretty much what we see now?

Here's one of the latest renderings that was on the fence in the fall of 2018.

Looks like a clean version of what's there now.

Basically just opening up the solid perimeter walls at-grade to allow for retail.
