Even worse, at 17 storeys they'll be the tallest buildings in the city.
They're perched atop a strand of Canadian Shield too so they'll be especially prominent.

There's already a highrise apartment that is built into the same rock, albeit at a lower elevation. It's bizarre; the rear side of the building is only like four storeys tall:

The northern suburbs are probably considered less chic than the southern ones, but they are bustling just the same. The NW suburbs in particular have ethnic flavour with large Filipino and Punjabi populations so I think that's driving a lot of the growth around there.

Reminds me of the ugly commie blocks next to the Basilica on the mountain in Montreal.

Did they render that in Minecraft?

Pathetic losers who designed this and made this rendering.

It looks like it was done by someone with very bad photoshop skills. I am absolutely shocked that Sudbury council would let this joke of a project go ahead. I would have thrown it out just from glancing at that rendering.

The previous render at least had some colour:

Sudbury.com

Could this be Clockzilla's new archnemesis?
I think these are actually shots of Pripyat or Khabarovsk

I am surprised by their sheer scale. That would be a big development for Winnipeg, let alone for Sudbury.

Sometimes you need these people-warehouses, but it would be nice if they put at least a little effort into their appearance.

Mind you most of Sudbury probably belongs on this thread. It’s nicer than it used to be but is just a very ugly city.

I like to watch videos on youtube of various streetscapes driving downtown various Canadian cities.. maybe it's just me.. i have too much time on my hands during this pandemic.. ..anyway, I just "drove" through Sudbury's downtown and I didn't find it all that bad to be honest. What I will say though is that the larger more prominent buildings in Sudbury themselves are not attractive in the slightest.. rather brutalist and cold looking. (luckily there aren't that many as it's a small city)

Could be a lot worse.. Could be Timmins.. that youtube drive through Timmins video nearly made me cry. I'm surprised Shania Twain's songs aren't more melancholy Eeesh!

Sudbury is actually much better than one would expect. Ramsey Lake is really nice, and they've got at least two really good museums (Science North and Dynamic Earth). It is much greener than I would have ever expected.

This thing looks like it was designed by a five year old using Minecraft! How the hell did this get approved?!?

I like the random flowers thrown into the crappy 90’s PC golf game lawn graphics. Really softens the prison like appearance of the warehouse for the elderly. You’d think after Covid there would be more scrutiny of a development like this.

Design brought to you by Links 386!

With a rendering like that, you know it's going to be quality!
