TV shows that put your city on the map

Did a famous show put your city on the map? For better or worse Portland is probably known best for Portlandia, which is actually the name of a statue. Also Dynasty took place in Denver and was created in 1981?? Thats the only pop culture reference to Denver i know of aside from Southpark.

The Wire was awesome. I absolutely associate Baltimore with that show. Seattle only equals Frasier to me tho.

For Toronto as far as TV audiences beyond Canada go, I'd say all the Degrassi shows, Orphan Black and more recently Kim's Convenience.

Toronto has been the setting for tons of Canadian shows that didn't get much attention outside Canada, although some of them did air on US network TV such as Due South, Flashpoint, Rookie Blue, The Listener, Saving Hope, Transplant and maybe a few more.

I remember watching that. Funny show, but I heard they canceled it or something.

NYC has a decent amount too. Friends, Seinfeld, Mad Men, Suits, Gossip Girl.

Kims Convenience is funny! Ok see you! NYC has a gazillion references. For some reason mine will always be Barney Miller and Night Court. The same dude wrote both theme songs too.

Vancouver - probably the most famous show was The X-Files but it never played itself. Then there's the CBC show Da Vinci's Inquest where it does.

Chicago Fire
Chicago P.D.
Chicago Med
Chicago Justice
Chicago Streets & San
Chicago Nobody Nobody Sent

Those might not all be TV shows.

But they probably should be.

For sure. I don't think anyone had ever heard of San Francisco and Chicago prior to the 1990s TGIF line-up.

I'd have to say Austin City Limits. It's no sitcom or drama, but I feel that it shows off Austin and its culture better than a sitcom could. It first aired only 3 months after Saturday Night Live did in 1976.

In the 80s we had Miami Vice, Golden Girls and Empty Nest (they were supposed to be next door to the Golden Girls house). Betty White and Don Johnson battling it out to see who could rule the city

Lord knows if they actually did it right, it'd be infinitely more entertaining than that other "Chicago" crap.
