Question to the Canadians here (or anyone who knows); what brings people to Edmonton? It looks like a fantastic place to live, but why would anyone visit? Calgary makes sense to me as a place to visit, given its proximity to Banff and its location on the TCH. But I'm kind of astounded at the number of people who've knocked out all 6 canadian cities. Does everyone on this forum, including many americans, just happen to have business or family in Edmonton?

^ I have family there so that played a role but would've gone there anyway because it's on the Trans-Canada Highway northern branch, on the way to Jasper, etc.

Business and friends for me. Alberta was kind of like Canada’s sunbelt - not because it’s warm (far from it!), but because it was a place a lot of people migrated to from other parts of the country. I’m not friends with any born-and-bred Edmontonians.

You’re right. Few people would visit Edmonton for a vacation. If I were coming from far away to visit Jasper NP, I’d actually fly to Calgary (more flights) and then drive to jasper via Banff and the Icefields parkway (not much longer, much mor scenic).

When I was relatively young my father had a conference at the University of Alberta, so I spent a full week in Edmonton. I don't remember too much other than the mall though.

i've never made it up to Edmonton, but if i ever do, i suspect it will be to experience this classic Schwarzkopf masterpiece, said to be one of the most intense roller coasters on the planet.

I've been to every one of them.

I just quickly scrolled through this thread; am I the first one to say that? For most of them, I've been to them many times.

I'm a self employed engineering consultant and I do commercial real estate Property Condition Assessments. I'm traveling all over the country, pretty much all of the time, then returning to my home office in Atlanta to write a report about whatever property I've just been to.

edited to add: I just noticed also the Canadian cities...I've been to three of those...Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. And probably about 25 countries.

That's right. You are the first to have been to them all.

Now rank them!

rank them how? Frequency of my visits? Or how much I liked or disliked them?

Most of the time, I'm flying in to an airport, hopping in to a rental car, driving to my property, then driving back to the airport. About 1 in 5 jobs might require me to overnight one or more nights.

5/6 Canadian cities (sorry Edmonton), plus a meagre 6 American (Buffalo, Boston, New York, San Fransisco, Orlando, Jacksonville if you count St. Augustine). Another 7 if you count driving through them (Detroit, San Jose, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Tampa, St Louis, Indianapolis).

I had planned to start trying to check off a lot more American cities in 2020... but.. well... you know. Hoping to get either Chicago or Washington as well as Detroit in by year end now.

I have been to a decent amount of smaller US metros like Grand Rapids, Asheville, Albany, Fort Myers, Fayetteville AR (long storey on that one), etc. as well.

For Canadian cities, I've been to basically every major metro over 400,000k other than Edmonton and Winnipeg. So I'm better travelled on this side of the border, but clearly my US exposure is lacking
