Doesn’t matter what camera as all DSLRs are basically the same now. But what matters is the lens. I was using a Tamron 300-600mm f5.6.

Hmmm further than I thought. I wonder what the furthest point from anywhere thats not in a plane can one see the toronto skyline…

San Diego needs something tall to define the skyline better. I don’t keep up on San Diego development news. Are there any plans for like anything over 800ft ever?

It's not just about the cam. I guess pretty much any reflex cam with a proper lens may do this, but you need to be used to taking pictures and find the proper settings. It takes skills to find out about the professional tricks. The quality of a photo mostly depends on ambient light, as optics is all about light, so they might even choose a particular season and time of the day for their shots.

photoLith posted a whole bunch of photos that were even more impressive than this on this forum over the years.
That's probably his thing. He's skilled at doing this.

If it were allowed, San Diego could and would build an 800' tower. Unfortunately there is a 500' FAA cap and from afar, you can see how the skyline is like a plateau, most of the new buildings go right up to the 500' limit.

Diega is a new apartment tower that opened this year. It's over 40 stories, probably close to the 500' cap, I don't know the exact height.
Across the street with the crane another residential tower going up, vacancies remain low across the area.

Anywhere on the Escarpment where there's a good clearing of trees on the edge will give you that view. I've seen Toronto from Sanborn, NY, before, which is near Lockport.

I was recently at a birthday in one of those newer Harbor Point highrises in Stamford. The views of Manhattan from Harbor Point are pretty badass.

To celebrate the New Year, I went for a hike on 1/2/21. In both of these pictures you can see Downtown SD and both are from rugged lands within the city limits of San Diego, if I were to turn around you would see some snow on the distance peaks. If you look closely, you can see two cruise liners anchored off shore, waiting to come in to San Diego Bay. Temperature at time of picture 61 degrees.

I took this picture yesterday, nice weather with good visibility. The view is from Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at about 350 feet above sea level.
If there is any question as to why San Diego has a short skyline, half of the answer lies in front of you.
The airfield isn't SD's airport it's NAS North Island. Just out of frame to the left of NASNI and also along the bay is the airport on the north side of the bay.

I haven't decided whether the skinny super tall residential towers in midtown help or hurt the beauty of the NYC skyline. They do change it for sure. They dwarf even the classic Empire State and Chrysler buildings. In distant views they look like smokestacks. Progress, I guess.
