Not everyone is enjoying all the new development in Ithaca. An article from the Cornell Sun voices concern from some of the merchants in the Collegetown neighborhood:

An article from the Ithaca Voice regarding Cornell's proposed Maplewood Park complex which plans to bring over 800 bedrooms to the east side of the city:

http://ithacavoice.com/2016/05/look-...ark-buildings/

The area certainly needs these units (and actually many more).

As usual, an Ithaca project has taken a long time to get going, but this one will hopefully start soon (from the Ithaca Voice):

One of the downtown projects is nearing completion (from the Ithaca Voice). While many welcome this news, the backlash on the Ithaca Voice Facebook page is .......... discouraging.

Well this one comes out of the blue. A new proposal for the Trebloc block has come forward. As you may recall a huge building (mixed use with ~ 600 apartments... see post 139) was proposed but the developers finally ended their efforts when local opposition and tough financing issues became too much. I have a feeling the new development team (which has a fairly local flavor) has probably learned a lot from the previous efforts mistakes.

Anyway, here's an article from the Ithaca Voice (with a couple of renderings):

http://ithacavoice.com/2016/06/new-p...-trebloc-site/

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Looks like the Nimbys are lining up against a big project (Maplewood) by Cornell just over the city line in the Town of Ithaca (from the Ithaca Voice):

An article about 201 College Avenue proposal and the response it's getting from some of the residents. Fear of changing the character of the neighborhood has the Nimbys out in force, but the project is within the new zoning rules for the area. From the Ithaca Voice:

http://ithacavoice.com/2016/06/old-y...usly-approved/

Last bit of scaffolding in front of the Carey Building is down. I really like what they did with this building and it integrates nicely with the area. Hopefully the Canopy starts soon and I can't wait to see how the two buildings transform that wedge of land.

The crane is gone from the Marriott and the exterior work is moving along nicely.

Looked like building had started on the relocation of the Tompkins Trust drive through and demo of the existing structure looks all but begun.

Fingers crossed something positive is happening with the Trebloc site.

Now, about the Harold's Square...

Thanks for the update ithacat. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I've been busy with family matters this week. I'm hoping the new Trebloc proposal fairs better than the last try. Seems like Harold's Square developers have a lot going on with the Chain district development on South Hill.
