When Covid started I was the fittest I have ever been, had a 4 pack working on a 6 pack. 2 years later and I'm fat. I feel the same negative effects so as of this week I started getting back into my eating and working out routines. After a few weeks and once I see some gains it will seem easy again.

I was also pretty good the first 6 months or so of COVID, and got into working out at home. For context, in the year prior to COVID I was at the gym 4-5 days a week and had gotten into a pretty good routine.

Fast forward to October 2020 when we got a puppy and it all fell apart. Despite racking up to 15,000 steps a day I fell out of shape and gained a decent amount of weight. I made a dent this summer from cycling but still well behind. Thankfully at a stage we can leave the dog alone reliably enough I should be able to get back into a gym routine this winter. Thankfully when I have done more intense activity it hasn't been too hard to get back into as despite not doing as much real exercise I'm still quite active.

When I was a kid I liked model trains. Well, I still do, but I have given up on building a layout myself. I realize I will never have the time, budget and frankly, skill to build something that I really like

I do enjoy looking at model trains, though. I can stare at them for a very long time, soaking up the intricate detail of a well designed layout.

I think the interest came from when I was a kid... for many years, Union Station in Winnipeg hosted a model railway club in the arrival and departure concourse. You could stand and watch the model trains going around the loop. It was fascinating stuff!

Working on my latest -a 1/700 model of the USS Nevada in early 1945. Lots of scratchbuilding on a resin kit.

Slowly making progress on the project truck: Front suspension and brakes are now totally done. Up next next is new brake lines to the rear and drum brake rebuild. Once that happens I should be back to running/driving/stopping.

Been managing to keep with doing some sort of workout 5 days a week. I'm almost certainly going to be in the best shape I've been in for the start of our rugby season.

That's pretty cool @niwell.

I'm assuming the model is about 16". I'm guessing that is a 12" stone.

So, as a retired young veteran, here are my hobbies, besides trolling the trolls.

If it has an engine, I drive it. That includes motorcycle, atv, snow machine, and a fishing boat. I also can work on my own stuff. For instance, there is a 1960s motorcycle to be put back together and a Jetski to have its engine reinstalled.

I fish and hunt. I have my PAL.

I camp. I also have a sea kayak and like doing long trips with it. I also like backpacking in the bush.

My handle comes from the fact that I am part of my local Masters swim club. I also can dive from diving boards. I also scuba dive and not only am AOW, but also Ice diver and Cavern Diving certified.

And...of course, I have a model railroad layout. And my Canadian can run daily....

Okay, so been working on this animation since September. I know it may look crude, but hand drawing, coloring, editing, sound design, etc... it all took a good couple hundred hours of my hobby time.

Its a satire on the current state of rehashing (especially Disney) old properties with cheap imitations of of older better films. Again, largely targeting Disney's current soulless live action remakes.

The story is set in a Blade Runner like universe... you see where the spoof is going.

Enjoy, Tape Runner!

That's funny, I also think my adopted dog is part of the reason I'm no longer in the shape I was before getting him right before Covid. I used to go to the gym almost daily but after getting my dog I feel bad leaving him alone for long. I easily walk him on average 3-4 km a day, longer on weekends but my down time is spent sitting on the couch playing PS5 or watching. I'm probably lazier because I'm a bit of a night owl and since getting this dog my days of sleeping in are over.

I am the opposite, I actually lost 50 pounds in the past year, from 170 down to 120. Ever since I started getting seizures a couple years ago it has been hard to concentrate on food. But I haven't a seizure for months now so I actually feel hungry sometimes now so my weight increased back to 135 now. Recently I started to going to restaurants again and of course it is a giant bowl of bun nem nuong and cha gio. I have always eaten all sorts of junk food as well, like cookies and muffins from Costco, doughnuts from Krispy Kreme, so I will continue doing that for the sake of good health.

But that's the least of my worries since it is almost springtime and I have been wanting to visit Toronto to take some photo, if the doctors allow it. First time in Toronto since early 2020, so I am already excited. I even bought a new lens this week just for roaming Toronto streets at night, my third lens ever! It is the 8mm F1.8 Fisheye:

Here was the previous lens, 8-25mm F4:

I bought this lens 2011 for walking around Toronto as well. It is perfect because it is ultra-wide to normal so it can cover everything in the city, but I haven't the chance to use it because of the seizures. I plan to use this one during the day and the fisheye during the night. I must admit I am bit of a gear head, so maybe photos was not the only motivation, lol.
