Sept 1st is almost over in Moscow - there would have been a press release on this. Nothing in the news or wires.

Great Pic's!! Looks like they are doing soil test as far as the underground goes, site-preping this baby for construction. Well, we should have something soon hopefully, this project was first announced in '94', 13 years latter and we are finally getting somewhere! I read an article that said this building was actually proposed to the Mayor of Moscow at 1000 meters, and the Mayor denied the plans! They gave no reason why he did (I'm guessing height), that would have been crazy if he excepted!!

The plan is 118 floors , though it is suggested that it contains 130 in the final design.

WOW!! Crazy pic's! Great to see this is getting underway. What I don't like about this though, is how Moscow wants this building to be second tallest in the world (no questions asked, as far as there government is concerned), and the only way to do that was to add to the stuctures height, and not to the floors! To me this is cheating, just to beat out the "Chicago Spire". To me, a Skyscraper is only as tall as the visability of hight a human-being can see from and the stories that the structure offers to the public, meaning the building it's self, and Not the Structure! Funny how this building went from 1,800 feet, to 2,012 feet once the Spire was announced? Still waiting and wanting more info on this!

1,800 feet? That's 548m, but Russia Tower was never planned as 548m tall, it was 648m tall in "pencil" variant, 750-1000m tall in first variant by Foster and finally scaled down to 612m.

As it was noted by Gamma-Hamster you have mixed up it with SOM's 648m tall pencil design. But it's going to be built in Dubai now in smaller version. There is no spire in Foster's design. Just like with LBT architectural tip is actually roof, because the side wall of the building is going upper of main roof.

OK you guys are right about the height part, I actually knew that already ; I messed up what I was thinking. What I ment to relate to was the bottom article, stating that the Russian governments requirment is for this building to be the second tallest in the the world.

"Russia Tower - skyscraper in the territory of Moscow International Business Center, planned to be completed in 2012. The proposed height of tower is 612 meters (2,008 feet). According to the chief architect of this project, Norman Foster, the tower must become the tallest building in Europe and second tallest in the world. The total area of the structure will cover 520,000 square meters (128.5 acres), of which 38% (200,000 sq m/49 acres) will be located underground. The tower will contain 118 floors, 101 elevators, underground parking to accommodate 3680 automobiles. The first floor will be used for commercial shops. The building will be able to hold 25,000 people simultaneously. The proposed site for the tower is on the Krasnopresnenskoy Embankment. The construction is scheduled to begin in 2007. A plan to build this enormous building was accepted by officials as early as 1994, and since then the tower changed its proposed position five times. In one of the versions, devised by Norman Foster, the height of the tower was to be 1000 m (3280 ft), this was turned down by the mayor of Moscow Luzhkov."

Why is this still in the Highrise PROPOSALS thread when the building is, in fact, under construction?
