The Point: third floor wall panels arriving while more concrete being poured at south end this afternoon.

Currently the building only covers roughly half the foundation. Any idea why they are only working on the northern half of the building, while the southern half remains a hole in the ground? The Feb 10 photo shows the entire site better.

I thought that was odd to see one half flying up with the other end still below ground level. No idea why, but after all that time where things were going along at a snail's pace, it's sure nice to see this building gaining some height.

They took a long time with the foundation. I believe it was said on here before there was an issue with the foundation contractor or concrete. It seems like they only completed the northern half of the foundation for the part of the building that is currently going up, and are just finishing the southern half of the foundation now.

Any updates on the old Pemby Hotel site? It doesn’t look like anyone has been on site since they demolished the hotel last summer. Fencing is still up.

The Point: 5th floor wall panels, 1st floor windows today. Progress on south end with precast concrete floor and steel on front wall in place.

It's an incredible visual reminder of how wastefully used land along Pembina is that this four-storey building looks absolutely gargantuan driving by.

It's a few storeys high, and it actually fills the lot. Everything around it is one storey and surrounded by acres of parking.

I'm looking forward to the planned redevelopments on the Pembina Hotel and Cambridge Hotel sites. The Point really shows the possibilities of this area, and maybe it'll inspire some more redevelopment of that area's underused properties along Pembina north and south of Jubilee.

Does this building have an elevator shaft? Just seems weird to have no concrete fire safe emergency exit on a six story wooden apartment building. I could never live in there my anxiety would be through the roof.

Most mid-rise wood framed residential projects that I've worked on, have had wood stairwells, seems like they just double up fire rated gypsum wall board in the stairwell and call it a day, not sure how safe that is...

Isn’t code to have an elevator if more than 2 floors above grade?
