COQUITLAM - Burquitlam Park & Whitgift gardens 8 towers

With the arrival of the evergreen skytrain Milenium line extension the Coquitlam West area or Burquitlam area is rapidly changing. Formerly a SFH area is being densified with townhouses, apartments and Highrises.

This development is one developer with two projects comprised of 10 towers and a new YMCA.

Whitgift will be 8 towers ranging from 24 to 48 floors. With 1000 market rentals, condominiums and senior housing. They will replace about 200 rental units on the current site spread across 3 or 4 four storey apartment buildings. And right next to a 3 tower development called Lougheed Heights which will be 24 - 39 storeys, which also replaced about 3 four storey apartments and currently under construction.

Burquitlam Park will be two towers at 50 and 30 storeys and the YMCA and will include I think it will be a first for the skytrain, a park n ride for commuters.

the darker brown buildings already either exist or are under construction, the transparent buildings are possible developments on what is currently a strip mall.

These two towers will be going in what is an existing but underutilized park, a new park will be constructed at the whitgift site to replace lost park area in a newly constructed park.

Currently there are about 6 towers under construction in the same area so its quite a busy construction area. This area is about 5 minutes or one skytrain stop north from the Lougheed Town Centre redevelopment which will see over 23 highrises constructed over its development time, the next decade or so, as well as at least 10 more highrises about to start construction or already under construction in the same area as Lougheed Town Centre/North Road.

The Burquitlam Capital - under construction

an overview of Burquitlam - the road last to the left is the border between the cities of Burnaby and coqutilam, Burnaby doesn't seem to have any big developments, other than Lougheed Town Centre, for its side of the Burquitlam area.

this is a few years ago, the area to the upper right is two towers already completed.

Uptown Coquitlam will be just to the north of the new Burquitlam Park development. It is two towers on a former safeway store site which is now housed in the new development. It is across the street from 567 Clarke + Como and only steps from the skytrain station.

There is one more 50 storey proposal which will be kitty corner to the whitgardens site basically just to the North West on the main Clarke Road where north road diverges. The whole area is for sale right now, lots of land assembly going on and sites up for sale, the city has already rezoned to allow for more density in its neighbourhood plan.
