The Prusik Group is a development partner in the ground-up development of three blocks along Surf Avenue in Coney Island. The mixed-use development will feature 1,000 residential apartments, 80,000 SF of office, and 150,000 SF of retail. The Prusik Group is heading up the retail efforts for all three sites, located across from MCU Park and Luna Park.
They look tasteful and restrained (the most important architectural factors) and pretty good to me at least from what I can tell from the image. Would be nice though to swap out the red brick with something lighter. Glazed white brick anyone?

^ Entire blocks of uniform looking, brown blockish towers are not attractive. Reminiscent of the many towers-in-the-park housing projects all over the city (yes, I know they have a streetwall and retail).
Have we not learned anything in 50 years?
Too small of an image to get a decent view at the details, but it looks like there are a few different facade types. Fits in with the neighborhood from the afar glance we're given, though I keep saying that these newer CI developments could reference more ornate details used in the area from the past.
It will probably look better from street level with the storefronts.

The city needs more of these type of development. Multi-block tower blocks, bulky in their nature.
Bronx Point is a similar one. You tend to see higher unit counts along the waterfront (future Astoria Cove, Greenpoint Parcels being developed for example).
This type of density is needed as redundant low-rises or single story structures of no aesthetic integrity are demo'd and replaced.
Long Island in general needs many more of these. We can also utilize bordering land to NYC to alleviate the housing needs. I'd say the area North of Astoria aka "Ditmars" would a prime candidate for tower blocks. Likewise for Great Neck and all of East NY (by JFK).
