summer, awesome updates on this and all of the other construction threads!!!

For the Granary, I assume that the older row homes (that house the Starbucks and GNC) at 20th and Callohill, remain standing and the development is built around it?

Thanks!

Yes the rowhomes will stay. I'm just interested to see what they are going to do with the Historic Granary Building and the small parking lot sliver next to it which has been dug up.

Meh. Needs another floor or two. It's right next to the Spring Garden El stop as it is.

Some updated New Market renders. This gained support of the Society Hill Civic Association and goes in front of the ZBA Sept. 5 for variances.

Agree.. this is begging for the redevelopment treatment.

This building is essential in the redevelopment of North Broad. Praying that this happens.

^ I think they need another round of nimby compromises to make this one even more boring and "contextual."

As much as I would like to see this building restore, the likely outcome will be an arson fire that guts the building. Look at the condition of it. It's only a matter of time. And with the economy still struggling, there will not be financing in place to start renovations...

I really feel like this is the kind of attention to finer details of the urban fabric that Philly's been lacking, and it's really exciting to see it happening.

Wow! Very nice new landscaping for the Schuylkill! When is that supposed to happen?

Here we go, via an article on Flying Kite:

Quote:
A start date for the project has yet to be determined, but state funding is already lined up and Pennoni Associates is already developing schemes and putting together designs to meet expectations. Once underway, construction should take about 3 months to complete.

According to Fike, expect similar, smaller scaled improvements along the river in months and years to come. “If the project proves to be successful, other areas along I-76 could be considered for treatment. However, because of varied existing conditions, treatments other than planters and screening may have to be investigated.”
So no exact timeframe yet, but it seems like they're moving on it. They frame the work as part of the broader attention that the Schuylkill has gotten over the past few years with the likes of the newly opened Grays Ferry Crescent.

The economy is rebounding. The banks are starting to lend once again. Of course its a tighter lending enviroments, but it can be done. There has been recent development throughout Philadelphia and success in this particular area.

This doesn't necessarily mean it will get done, but it is certainly possible.

Sounds good... that will be a huge improvement to look across the river from the Schuylkill River Banks Trail and see trees instead of concrete.
