And from today. Windows are in both the further east buildings, and insulation is being installed on both as well, while the westernmost building continues structural construction.

Wonder what "neighbors" concerns are over this? The guests of the hotel across the street will lose their view of the boarded up school behind the proposed sight?

The rear of the property is a residential street. Neighbours are concerned about traffic using the entrance to this place which will be on their street.
And the old school isn't 'boarded up'. It's a Royal Canadian Legion branch. The windows have been bricked in.

The second phase apartment building (695 Niagara Street) in Welland is under construction while construction at 699 continues. Sounds like both will be purpose-built rentals.

Designed to meet a need in Welland, and Niagara, construction of a second purpose-built apartment building is underway at 695 Niagara St.

At 699 Niagara St., the six-storey, 129-unit building on the north side of the property featuring 47 bachelor, 48 one-bedroom and 34 two-bedroom units.

I'm glad that 18 storey in downtown St. Kitts is well underway. Just wish it was being built by someone else. This guy owns numerous units he rents out to Brock University students and treats them like a total slumlord.
One report was so bad the students called the city of St. Catharines to intervene so they could have a working refrigerator!

Honestly the South wing should have to be completely disassembled and start from scratch. It can't be safe!

Work on St. Catharines tallest downtown building could start next week

By Don Redmond
Published June 23, 2023 at 3:53 pm

Quote:
After a meeting this morning (June 23) between city officials, the media and the developers of what will be the tallest building in downtown St. Catharines, the mayor said work could begin as early as next week.

“Demolition is set to start as early as next week,” said Mayor Mat Siscoe, meaning the existing structure at 88 James St., Gord’s Place, will face the wrecking ball within days.
Quote:
While the outer framework for a nearby 18-storey rental unit building in downtown St. Catharines between Garden Park and Carlisle St. is already built, this is the first word on the construction of the 30-storey condo building at 88 James St. that is being built by Elite Developments.
Quote:
“(The residential/commercial development at) 88 James will introduce 236 units to our housing market and will draw more developers to St. Catharines- a new market for those seeking reasonably priced housing and tapping into the trend of remote work.”

Elite Development estimates it will take roughly three years from ground-breaking before residents can move into what will be St. Catharines’ fanciest new digs.

RIP Gord's. It was a BrockU hangout for decades and a decent spot for a drink with a huge outdoor patio.
