South Bend -

Demolition is underway on the former, fire-ravaged Fun F/X Halloween Warehouse. It was originally the Wilson Brothers Shirt Company factory (images) -

Goshen-

Last week, Elkhart County broke ground on its new, $94 million, 4-story consolidated courts facility. The 173,000 SF building will be constructed on the northwestern edge of Goshen, in an open field along CR17 -

Interesting that Goshen is the county seat of Elkhart County instead of Elkhart. I wonder who thought that was a good idea lmao.

It doesn't seem like an accident that they chose to site this new courthouse on the edge of the city limits, as close to Elkhart as possible. From the new courthouse to downtown Elkhart would be only a 15 min. drive.

South Bend -

The expanded St. Joseph County Public Library (main branch) reopened in downtown South Bend in mid-November. I haven't found any decent finished photos, yet -

Elkhart -

A new condo development - 900 JCKSN - is under construction in the River District at 900 E Jackson Blvd, along the St. Joseph River, on the former site of Alick's Home Medical supply store. Looks good, but - - roll eyes for the name - can we please move-on from the trend where removing vowels from words somehow makes the object cooler?

Fort Wayne, Suracks combine on $50 million mixed-use building

Quote:
The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division is partnering with Sweetwater founder Chuck Surack and Lisa Surack, now of Surack Enterprises, to bring more development to the downtown area.

The project, known as “The Pearl,” will be an investment of nearly $50 million by the Suracks. It is anticipated to include a seven-story mixed-use building with more than 35,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial and event space, 92 structured parking spaces for residents, five “first of its kind” live/work units and approximately 76 dwelling units on upper floors.

Looks like they are demolishing the entire block that this will be on. Additionally they are redeveloping the sidewalks and infrastructure in the area, and are repaving Pearl Street. They are also reinstalling the brick on Webster Street and Maiden Lane. I find it interesting that so many of these new projects are popping up within blocks of each other. This is directly next to The Bradley development and the new STAR Headquarters, and only a couple blocks away from the developments at Promenade Park.

^ Thanks for posting that. I saw it come across my feed a while ago and was meaning to get around to putting it up on here. I have added it to the rundown. It doesn't look like too terrible a loss to lose the entire block of existing structures (the Ross Building being the exception).

Steel is going up at Fort Financial Credit Union's ~ $9 million future HQ, located in suburban Fort Wayne, at the southwest corner of Lima and Wallen roads. These pictures are from about a month ago now -

Hard to believe that the first tenants will begin moving in to the Electric Works development this fall. I think the new building looks rather bland with its simple massing, dull brown brick, and gray metal paneling. Maybe that was intentional though, to keep the focus on the restored historic portions?

They should have just made it match the historic portion IMO. Looks out of place to the rest of the complex

New development project near Promenade Park
Shwetha Sundarrajan | WANE
March 25, 2022

A new development combining residential, retail, and dining is planned along the St. Marys River near Promenade Park. The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division announced Friday that Indianapolis-based developer Barrett & Stokely Inc. is set to invest $51 million in a private development project northwest of Promenade Park. Located on the 2.28-acre site known as “The Wedge”, plans include to construct apartments, townhomes, retail space, outdoor dining and parking on the north side of the river...
Construction is projected to start sometime next year.

Forgot to mention that the first portion of the airport terminal expansion opened two days ago, just in time for spring break trips. The new area includes a new American Airlines ticketing area & offices, updated vestibules, updated seating area, and a phase 1 of the new terminal drive canopy. The updated space features floor to ceiling windows, new signage, low-profile baggage scales, LED lighting, and the first phase of a cane trail that will eventually run through the entire terminal building -

Elkhart -

The new Tolson Center for Community Excellence just held a groundbreaking on May 24 in South Central Elkhart. The new facility will be built on the same site as the formerly shuttered community center to provide space for inclusive learning, recreation, and cultural exchange. The projected cost (as of August 2021) was $11 million. It probably has risen since then -
