The Metropolitan Transit Commission has unanimously voted to adopt staff's recommendations for updating the 2030 Transit Plan. This includes adoption of a future Silver Line light rail alignment along Uptown Charlotte's North End rather than through through the Center City core.

Hope this will speed up 1st Ward development!

Agreed. While the tunnel would have been faster, it would have done little to spur new development in an already heavily built corridor. There are more opportunities for new development in the first and fourth wards, and when the 2nd phase of the Gold line opens there will be a decent east-to-west connection in mid-Uptown.

On the down side, have to make a connection to the blue line or the gold line to get to the core...unless one doesn't mind the long walk.

Portman South End Office Project

Portman Holdings is planning a 275 foot tall office building that will contain around 260,000 square feet of office and 20,000 square feet of retail. They recently purchased the 2.2 acre property for $12.7M.

Childress Klein, Ram Realty Advisors South End Office Project

Charlotte-based Childress Klein and Ram Realty Advisors, a Florida firm that keeps an office here, have filed plans with city of Charlotte's development services that indicate they seek to build up to 257,102 square feet of office and 21,502 square feet of retail space at a site that includes the corner of Camden Road and West Worthington Avenue in South End. The land today serves, in part, as a surface parking lot for the Design Center of the Carolinas, which sits directly across Worthington Avenue from the newly proposed project.

It's in close proximity to another project Ram began construction on this week, a 13-story, 71-unit luxury apartment tower with 6,200 square feet of ground-floor retail at the corner of Hawkins and Doggett streets.

According to the folks at UP, pre-submittal land-use meeting request was filed for the parcel along Mint (facing Stadium/I-277). Many speculated that Legacy 3 will be Honeywell HQ. The building will probably concave due to the shape of the parcel. I hope Legacy 4-7 will not end up being all offices...hoping for some residential/hotel.

General consensus seems to be 575-625 feet. Depends on the top, it looks like like there is a decorative piece that extends beyond the roof

Like it a lot and best of all, this is a single tenant and a done deal. Construction will start soon.

But if they share the building, it would be taller...

I'm just happy that it is not a flat top. Kinda cool to have solar panels on the roof (if they are indeed solar panels)...can't wait to see more renderings!

Edit: Good thing that there is a good set-back from College Street, else they would have the same problem with ice sliding off the roof like DEC

Duke Energy Corp. will start construction next month on its proposed uptown tower, which the company now says will be 40 stories tall.

Duke spokesman Neil Nissan says that with the expansion to 40 stories, the building is now projected to house about 4,000 Duke employees. The utility company expects about 1,000 skilled workers will be employed on the project during the three years of construction. And Nissan confirmed that the architect is TVS Design of Atlanta.

“When we announced in December, it was a preliminary announcement basically announcing we were moving forward with this project,” he says. “We still had work to do to finalize the design. We’re still working on that actually.”

Duke expects the new tower will be finished in 2022.

Per posters at UP, BB&T/Suntrust is looking for space in uptown (twice the size of Ally Financial)...if this is true, then a new 600 ft+ tower could be in the work.

After looking closely at this image, the seam down the building between the skins (logo side of the building) seems sparkly...perhaps this is part of the lighting scheme?

Mostly office and hotel, but some mid/high rise residential

Uptown 550 - 20 floors, now topped out
The Ellis - 33 floors, now u/c
Northwood Ravin just started a 15 floor uptown project as well

That seems to be it for the moment. The real residential booms have been in SouthEnd, NoDa, along the Lynx light rail extension, and in SouthPark. Thousands of new apartments have been built and are continuing to be built. Which is great, Charlotte needs more medium density urban neighborhoods.
