Oh, you didn't know Caruso was in charge of the renovation? The lights also pump out Frank Sinatra

What a beautiful park! The area needs more gentrification, I think that fencing is good to keep the park nice and clean until a more environmentally conscious population around the park is settled in

Seriously though, are those the refurbished originals? They don't look right.

Original or not, they are actually my favorite part of the renovation. A bit of signage and placemaking in the park and I think they look cool.

Wish they had a boat house, swimming or some other active use to keep the park/lake programmed.

Good article from a few years ago with several photos.

Also this postcard showing an original light, though I'm unsure if this is accurate:

Lol swimming in MacArthur Park? Might as well swim in the swimming pool from Poltergeist.

A boathouse with row boats like at Central Park or Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park would be pretty neat. I can't think of any urban parks where you can swim in a lagoon though.

Edit: Looks like there actually used to be a boathouse, and it was actually a full lake before it got bisected by Wilshire, which was added later on to connect the two sides. That's too bad they didn't consider closing off the street and reconnecting both sides again.

LOL. I was imagining something more like what they were proposing as one of the options for the Silver Lake Reservoir re-do where the pool is both part of and not part of the lake, though the lake is very likely no longer big enough with Wilshire bi-secting it.

If you're referring to the lights that look like they're based on a design patterned after this, they look fine to me....

I like the styling of the lights. It's the scale that doesn't look right to me. They look shrimpy and undersized, like something bought from home depot to put at the end of your driveway.

"Shrimpy" also means pedestrian scaled. If a streetlight is too high it usually doesn't keep the area as well lit for pedestrian (and is usually designed for car traffic instead).

I was told they are 95 years old. Anyway here are a few more pics from MacArthur Park.

LA has a nice collection of old street lamps and these look pretty good to me.

To this day I would love to have a unit in the Playstation Building. Just to say I live there. I've been fascinated with it for a very long time.

Same. One of my "holy grail" buildings. If they were condos and not apartments, it would probably be one of the better long term bets in Los Angeles, just due to the uniqueness of the building/living spaces.

Been in so many movies - Kill Bill, Neon Demon, Get Him to the Greek, Entourage.

So cool.

MacArthur park wouldn't have gotten so bad to begin with if more ppl through the yrs had been tougher on what the city should or shouldn't do.

for example, this is far worse than the specifics of refurbished old lights in MacArthur or the color of the lower walls of the Grand Ave proj across from disney hall. Or the rusting oceanwide proj on fig st......

In grade school when other kids were drawing Nike's and anime characters on their lined notebook paper I was doodling street lamps. I'm kind of a different breed.
