I agree. Another classic example of LA overdoing/thinking something that should be quite simple and straightforward.

If it were simple and straightforward, there would be people complaining that it was bland and utilitarian.

I suspect that the Broad was unhappy with the original design and recommended changes after consulting with their own architect.

Well, they could've made it interesting design-wise without sacrificing logical circulation.

Yeah. They should get rid of the slits in the middle.

Something Grander for Grand Avenue Project?

Gehry should upgrade the main tower to 80+ stories, and make it a full multi-use. Hotel, residential, office, retail. Tallest in Los Angeles. Might actually help get the project moving.

Bad Transit = Jerry's slow choo choo that will be a money pit and probably never be built in the original form and will be anything but a "bullet train".

The future for intercity is something like Elon Musk's maglev.

That is a great idea ! As it stands if nothing gets going soon, it will be listed as an Historic Site !

Personally I don't think in this case it's overthinking. If you look at it it's
really not overkill also. Yes, several more steps to go around the trees but means more exercise (and healthy) for pedestrians. At least in this case adding trees (over a street) is great tactical urbanism in itself. This is much better than a straight simple bridge.

Or we could dump Gehry altogether and have someone design something more realistic and suitable for the neighborhood. BIG comes to mind. Or SHoP. Which is what I think will happen anyway when it comes to Grand Ave. 10 years ago, the Grand Ave Project would've been vital for DTLA's rebirth. 10 years later, notsomuch. DTLA is doing fine without it although something does need to be built on that site.

Yes, or at least place them somewhere else.

I can understand why people have different opinions about a streetcar in Downtown, but sorry, that design makes just no sense.
We were always discussing things here, but it's really strange lately. It's like we got so many new user here or at least people who where barely on and they fight every opinion that comes up. Then again it's obviously just a feeling.. people have different opinions.

I showed that bridge to a couple of my friends who are a way more into that business than I am and they couldn't believe it.

I have mixed feelings on Ghery, but I would love if Shop took his place. I honestly want Shop to design everything.

Gehry is too much form, not enough function for me.

His buildings also don't do much for pedestrians IMO.

Rams COO mentions DTLA cranes in a statement about returning to LA:

"When you look at the number of cranes downtown and the projects throughout the Southland, this is a city that’s really found its footing as a diverse business economy, as a diverse international city"

Gehry is hit or miss. When he hits, it's a home run.

When he misses, then you get this pile of vomit.

I'm a fan of Gehry but I'm also over him.
