The median income in the US is slighty higher than Canada and Netherlands, more than UK and France, and less than Sandinavia -but then Americans work much longer than all of them, in days per year and hours each day. Also such is the inequality at the bottom, the lowest 10% in the UK earn $18K, but in the US only $10K (and with far less social security provided by the state). What stands out is the inequality at the top, that skews it most:

In short what Europeans lose out in pay, are rewarded in lifestyle and state eg free healthcare, subsiized transport and infrastructure, 30 days paid holiday, social security if down and out/ losing jobs.

Good point, but are we talking about gross median income or net? Americans pay less taxes then all of the other G7 countries like the U.K, France, and Canada, so it's up to them or their employers to control their own private health insurance etc.
You're right about the poor being better off in the U.K, France etc. though .More of a safety net.
