McKenney has also been pretty clear about their position, being in favour but wanting more consultation about the overall project. Chiarelli just said he would put in on hold, along with any other big projects (except for road widenings, I'm sure).
I see McKenney and Sutcliffe are 1st and 2nd in the polls so looks likely it will happen

It's funny that when you look at the before and after, the North side will actually have less seats AFAIK Doesn't look like it with the two decks but it will be less seats.

Yup, that's correct. Net loss of 2,000 seats. And the arena will be nearly half the size, going down from 10,000 to 5,500 seats.

This honestly doesn't look that bad to me. Especially for a limited event.

I may be part of a small minority.

It's fine. When hosting these types of things, you aren't showcasing the stadium - you're showcasing the city.

Sorry for sparking such a debate. It's not a bad stadium, just not what you'd expect for a world city of 6 million metro population.

There'll be no impeded views of the field of play from any of the seats

It'll be similar to the outdoor NHL game in sightlines. IIRC both the Grey Cup and MLS Cup used the same stands for the south stand.

I always thought the 1976 east stand was surprisingly modest and bare bones for the purpose it was meant to serve. For baseball there were hardly any seats behind the plate... for football, many of the seats were pointed away from the field and lots of benches were used (which I suppose was fairly standard at the time). The entire thing was uncovered. It was a very awkward setup compared to the more conventional cookie cutter stadiums in the US with their movable stands that would adjust to whatever field was in use on a particular day.
I believe there were seats behind the outfield fence in the main grandstand that were further from the fence, than the fence was from home plate.

Though those tickets were rarely sold.

Aa someone mentioned, how quickly people seem to have forgotten that Skydome was supposed to be a multi-purpose stadium for Toronto and Ontario, that was meant to host the range of major activities, sporting or otherwise.

And then they went and gifted it to the Blue Jays.

IIRC it was supposed to be part of a bigger project. The casino was supposed to move nearby at the Peel Bassin and an exhibition centre was also proposed.

You realize that multi-purpose stadiums started becoming irrelevant shortly after SkyDome first opened via Camden Yards in Baltimore?

Having any stadium function for both football and baseball is simply a no-go in 2022 across the board.

In any case, the dome is still selling out massive concerts this summer (Motley Crue/Poison, Lady Gaga, RHCP/The Strokes) while maintaining the circa-2016 fixed baseball configuration.

I checked it out when I was in Victoria earlier this year. I was impressed, it's a nice, cozy little venue. At the moment it feels seriously weird due to the lack of an opposite stand and the hydro lines on the other side, that layout kind of kills the professional vibe of the place, but once that's fixed this will be among the best small stadiums in Canada. The surroundings help give it some real west coast flavour too, which is nice.

The province had egg on its face for letting construction costs get out of hand (sounds familiar for some reason), so dumping the asset while it was worth something was the expedient solution. Especially in light of the province’s finances being less than fantastic in 1994.

Admittedly, dumping it at that time was probably the peak real-world value as it was riding the high of two Jays World Series wins. A decade later, it was worth peanuts.

Ultimately, it was the peak example of the multipurpose venue. Which means that at least they’re not imploding it and it will probably see another 25 years of use.
