Wow, that 7th picture of the Humanities Building looks like that to of the wall aged like an old castle.

Where are those two Prairie-style houses?

In all my time in Madison, I’ve never visited or even seen the FL Wright Meeting House. Is that in Shorewood?

I like your photos of Humanities & Vilas. The Humanities Building is slated for replacement by 2029. Though I never really was much of a fan, I did appreciate its uniqueness. The attached article offers a detailed history of its development, its design and why many came to loathe working in the building (hint construction budget cutbacks).

Agree with this.

It’s certainly unique, but it’s a loathsome example of a public space and a horrible place to spend time in. Students walk around it rather than through it (as is possible) because it’s so uninviting and there are too many unnecessary changes in elevation. The layout is confusing. The air conditioning and heating don’t work (partly due to horribly inefficient design). And it was literally falling apart in 2005.

Do you know what they’re replacing it with?

Hopefully a small “campus” of buildings rather than one monolith. Something that allows Lathrop Drive to continue east (for pedestrians), incorporates the Bascom Hill bridge, etc.

Mifflin Street

One of my old haunts - upscaling happens

The old (in)famous Mifflin Street Co-op , now some office.

The old pad - the crane is new

502 W Washington - Densifying

Here you can see poor little Mifflin street - with it's quaint student slum - being squeezed between huge apartment blocks

This was a rail-yard back in the `80s

one last look down W Washington

The First Unitarian Society Meeting House is at 900 University Bay Dr, Madison, WI 53705. It was originally designed by F.L.W. and built by Marshall Erdman. The best view of the original structure is on the North side.
