This is as close as we’ll get to the original WTC.

That's always been my belief.

Any reason why the bases are so different in design? I guess it helps them have their own identity but I like the design of the first one so much better than the second one. Kinda wish they matched.

To me, it's really the new Sixth Ave. It's the 21st century XYZ.

I don’t get XYZ at all here. Maybe a little with 50 and the Spiral because of how wide they are. This seems more WTC to me, only with a smaller plaza, and retail at street level. There’ll even be a smaller hotel, though the original didn’t have a residential tower. But I get the old WTC from Church Street vibe.

The (mostly) column-free design for the base on building 1 was necessary to avoid the train tracks below IIRC. I'm sure the cost savings involved with avoiding those huge cantilevers on building 2 played a big part in the design for its base.

I think both bases are nice. The column-free design is admittedly more striking, but I don't need two side by side. I like that they're similar with variations on the wide-open lobby theme, and I think they compliment each other well enough.

I'm still annoyed building one had a height cut, but these two towers together have an appeal that goes beyond either one individually.

I hope we'll get lots of people photographing straight up standing between them. If the beehive thing at the yards can get all that attention, these twins will deserve just as much.

I can already envision this tower standing with its sibling.

When I first saw the renderings for these two I thought they were dull but they’ve exceeded my expectations. The slight tapering and beauty of the glass curtain wall is just so elegant.

Looks like a second crane going up today, but I could be wrong.

Not really. These towers don't even offset each other like the originals.

LOL, a ridiculous argument to make. By the way, its not the offset of the Twins that made the WTC the WTC. Most people didn’t even know they were offset. Nothing in NY comes closer. Maybe in the future, but we haven’t seen that yet obviously.

Never said it did. iiConTr0v3rSYx said this and then you appear a few moments later to say 'That's always been my belief....'

So 'LOL' right back at you as you appear to back track.....

Well, when you consider they both taper and 2 MW is shorter, from an angle it does appear to offset from another.

You telling me this rendering doesn’t look like the original WTC?

Well, these two towers have a partially curved, all glass curtainwall and one is about 10% shorter than the other.

Yes, you have two similar looking buildings next to each other. You could make an argument that several blocks of 6th ave look similar to the original WTC too.
