I love the redesign, just because it looks like it blocks more of the New York.

I disagree. I think the lakefront needs more diversity in shape, texture, size, architectural style, etc. in general from the very north to the very south of the city. It will forever be in view. Might as well be as eclectic as the city itself.

GRIT's redevelopment plan for Michael Reese is moving forward. The city will co-host a webinar, discussing the current plans on May 4th. More info here: https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/dept...ital-site.html

Here's a current rendering of the project

In the middle of the night, we could convert Northerly Island back into Miegs airport

I hope this gets the grid restored south and west of the Michael Reese site at some point in the not-so-distant future. There's also way too much green space in the area between Dunbar and Lake Meadows Parks...especially with the lakefront within a half mile.

Re-purpose and preserve McCormick East - they've already shown you can land a plane on it. Could be for the new Aero-Cars.

( and they saved the parking lots ! )

Previous design?
Oh wow - I used to live in the building on the left (top image), and my condo looked out onto that empty field/dog park east of the New York building... so glad I moved in time haha

The design is..whatever, but I'm glad more and more of the lakefront is filling up, especially if there's demand...however, living along LSD is not always as enchanting as some may think; cars are constantly driving down that stretch at like 50-60 miles an hour, and even 8-10 stories up, the noise was always noticeable.

Lakefront is fine for things like cycling, not so ideal for general daily use like ball fields, dog walking and such, nor necessarily that accessible nor appealing to cross LSD. Given all the land in that area, I would actually like to see a long-term plan that built more public and event space capacity in this area that might supplement some of the space to the north. IMO, if the core of the area grows significantly over the next 50 years, it would be preferable not to continue thinking of Millennium/Grant as the only large central spaces.

I drove past 800 W Fulton as they were installing the faux masonry work on the large East/West columns as well as a truck waiting on Fulton to unload more of the pre-cast pieces. Yikes...at first glance, did not look great. I guess I'll wait to see the finished product but in the renderings it looks brown but in person it looked red.

The lakefront on the north side has all those things and it's significantly busier than the lakefront on the south side. I think it's a fair point though that those things should exist within the community as well. The green space should still be reworked so that it's not destroying connectivity between nodes. Everyone would prefer one larger, well amenitized park over several smaller ones void of personality.

There's like two dudes working on the Bentham, filling in the parking level walls with cinderblocks. At this rate, the building will be done in 2031.

800 W Fulton

Brick up on 800 W Fulton. Liking it. Precast but looks good.

I like the variation... hard to tell about the quality from a webcam but it looks like they used norman bricks, so at least the scale is appropriate.

The color is more red/brighter than I had expected. Not bad, but I think would have preferred something less saturated. Hard to say without seeing it with the other materials, maybe it will end up looking a little more subdued when steel and glass go in?
