We will be exploring the most current demographic (e.g., foreign-born/citizenship, cultural diversity, etc.) trends for countries, cities and metropolitan areas where and when available.

The World around us & societies continue to change/evolve as people continue to migrate to various locations seeking a better life. Of course -- not all countries are on the receiving end of this phenomena but those that are, are becoming more diverse than they have ever been.

Other countries to be explored in the near future will be: Germany, France, Canada, New Zealand, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Japan, Colombia, Chile, Portugal, etc.

We will start with their foreign-born or foreign-citizenship/nationality populations and then eventually move into ethnic/ancestral/tribal groups from those that have that data available.

Some countries are in the process of releasing their most recent Census data or are about to conduct their Census so information is limited in some cases like the UK, Ireland, The USA, etc. but I will eventually post those too or updates as they roll in.

Off we go to Germany to explore their most prominent foreign national populations... other than the data for Berlin -- the other information are just for their cities not metropolitan areas and are of foreign citizenship not foreign-born (so the true number could be higher or lower for foreign-born in some cases).

Remarkable how the UK is still the top country of birth for immigrants in Australia.

Though I know two recent Australian PMs were British-born (Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott).

Germany's numbers are probably as reliable as it gets, given the strict rules around all residents immediately registering home address. You can't really do anything "off the books" in Germany.

And for 2022, they will have 1 million Ukrainians up there, only below Turks.

Syria and Ukraine gave Germany extra 2 million people. Including Iraq, Afghanistan and a possible increase from Russia, than it's over 3 million Germany got due recent conflicts.

Wow, amazing that Filipino immigrants outnumber Chinese immigrants in Canada.

And the Brits are still near the leaders. I know the underlying why, but it's still odd to meet Canadians with British accents, and discover that they aren't temporary expats or something. In U.S. worldview, those New World migration waves from the UK ended nearly 200 years ago.

Next stop is New Zealand or Aotearoa. Demographically-speaking it shares a lot of similarities with Australia's top foreign-born albeit on a smaller scale with the exception of a larger share of migrants from the Pacific Islands.

i looked at 2020 population densities for US states to do something similar, and i think the blue states below (including DC) represent the smallest contiguous area, by state, that holds roughly half of the US population.

hawaii and california are also high density states, but they don't connect with any other higher densities ones.
