Vintage Florida: 1989-1996

Here's a collection of photos from various places in Florida: Including Miami/Miami Beach; Tampa-St. Pete; Ft Myers; Orlando along with places on the Panhandle such as Crestview, Defuniak Springs and Pensacola. This is an era when Miami's Brickell District was just experiencing large-scale development, but way before the epic condo boom of the 2000's. Miami Beach was trendy but still had lots of retirees, and St Petersburg really hadn't become trendy yet. I remember being very impressed with Mizner Park in Boca Raton. It was a redevelopment of an old strip center into a major mixed-use "new urbanist" style development. Hope you enjoy!

Always loved the look of this hotel but it was a bit too much for our family at the time.

Very nice collection of pics. It's interesting to see the Miami skyline with almost no skyscrapers in Brickell south of downtown.

I'm telling you that the vintage Florida was the best Florida ever existing.

The vast majority of my experience in Florida has been in Orlando (about a dozen times) and I've been to most of the other cities in Florida about 1-3x, but never before 2008. These photos are excellent and really give an idea of how these places were at these times. I've always loved the late 80s Miami skyline over what it currently is, and the Lake Eola shots make Orlando look like a tiny little city. Then again, at that time, it kind of was.

Thanks so much.

Nice pictures! De Funiak Springs and Crestview were the most interesting to me; they seem like Deep South towns, and I wonder if any of those old buildings are still around, being used, or have fallen into more disrepair or were destroyed.

I have never seen pictures of Pensacola and this historic hotel looks intriguing.

awesome, takes me back to family trips visiting my sisters who moved to the sarasota/tampa areas in the late 80s/90s. especially the mall interior shots.
