The state now has until April 5, 2022, to reach an agreement with a buyer for the 1.2 million-square-foot glass-and-steel structure, though the legislature could grant another extension.

“Although the overall project schedule has been impacted by COVID-19, the Illinois Department of Central Management Services is moving forward with the sale of the James R. Thompson Center,” spokeswoman Marjani Williams said in a statement.
Well I guess that's not so shocking.

Sad day. Demo permit was issued for the building that formerly housed LaLuce at 1399 W Lake. Really a shame this couldn’t be saved.

I read only that the building came off the delay list. Did you see something about an actual permit issued?

But damn that's a cool building. Will look awesome looming over the Stevenson or glowing along the Green Line.

Just the idea that there are potentially hundreds of people out there who would voluntarily spend their time and presumably money watching others play video games is frankly disorienting and makes me want to go for a long walk outside right now. That stated, agree - definitely welcome the addition and more Koo, please.

Pilsen Landmark District, defeated unanimously in committee. This one never had a realistic shot as it's difficult to recall any remotely similar proposal in which community opposition was so broad and overwhelming. Just sweeping. That's been clear for months.

Truly awful. One of those buildings that I always admire when going past, as it stands out among its surroundings in a really pleasing way.

welp get used to buildings like LaLuce coming down along 18th street and grey boxes with black window trim getting slapped up because its clear thats all this city knows how to do anymore short of enforceable protections

'urban renewal" back en vogue, now for even stupider and self defeating reasons than the first time!

oh come on, I am sure some of those will have multi colored paneling....can't stand in the way of "progress"! Why would we ever want to hold on to older buildings that make our city great when we can homogenize and become like all the others?....this just pisses me off. Nothing will get saved until there are only a very few left and by then they might not even be the best cases to preserve in the 1st place.

^, ^^ Truth bombs like these are gonna get yourselves banned!

Continually placing financial burdens on developers, such as Affordable Rate Housing, results in cost savings/VE changes in which aesthetics are the first to go! Hello banal design/colorful metal panels.

you seriously think that not existing would change a damn thing in terms of what gets torn down and the quality of replacements we get? cmon
