Google Maps has updated to include 2019 streetview images. Good way to kill some time on a Friday afternoon. West Loop's transformation continues to amaze...

I dunno if I like it either but Moore certainly put a lot of thought and theory behind it.

I may never appreciate the more exuberant versions of PoMo but they are valuable in their own way as part of history - and PoMo is back in style now. But Via Como is just... ugh.

That update was posted literally earlier this year. Right? Certain cities (like downtown Dallas) already have 2020 images.

I use Google aerial 3D maps a lot for work and I can guarantee that there was a big difference between August and October of this year, in terms of how Chicago looked on the website. Earlier this year, the update was through 2018 developments, but the October update now includes built projects through summer/fall of 2019.

I also noticed that Google streetview has been updated through Feb/March 2020 for cities like Dallas, Atlanta and Houston. Cities like Chicago, NYC, Boston are updated through August-November 2019, probably because there are larger CBDs to cover.

Pretty cool idea for the old Kozy spot (bought a bike there!). Esports have been big for a while (and even more so with COVID). DOTA 2's International has like a $40M prize pool. Even here the Chicago Theatre sold out like 4 nights for LOL semi-finals. Other games like CS:GO, COD, Overwatch, Starcraft, and even Fortnite, expand the audience widely. Perhaps they can make money off betting too now that it's legal?

It's all going to be about the execution. I can imagine lots of university students taking advantage, we will see.

Considering this venue has a Sci-Fi theme, do you guys think Friends of the Park will swoop in and try to kill it, like they did the Lucas Museum? That's the only logical explanation I can deduce for FOTP; that they just hate Sci-Fi.

As much as FOTP is a severely flawed organization with positions that are antithetical to their supposed mission, I doubt it since this is well far enough away from the lakefront (although, I couldn't tell if you were joking or not).

E-sports is so HUGE, I'm glad there will a dedicated 'arena' for it here in Chicago:

Koo & Associates (from the Crain's article)

I'm not a gamer and the idea that e-sports would displace actual physical sports at a time of soaring obesity is... concerning.

But damn that's a cool building. Will look awesome looming over the Stevenson or glowing along the Green Line.

^^That's funny because it's not quite accurate - I think that stereotypical image of gamers is a dated mentality; most professional gamers that I've seen are skinny high school or college kids (or older), and they make a lot of money. Like in the millions. Jokes on us.

Ugh....Reading that article I saw another -https://www.chicagobusiness.com/commercial-real-estate/wrigleyville-developer-sues-movie-theater-operator that really depressed me. Was looking forward to that theater. Assumed they were in trouble.

Also, the newish Starbucks in the office building on Gallagher Way is closing permanently on Friday. That is a biggie.

What ever happened to the 'Chicago Blues Experience'?

I realize that there is a pandemic, but that project seemed to have stalled well before COVID was even an issue.

It appears that nobody has successfully launched a Blues-themed museum in Chicago as of yet...

True story: I cannot tell you how many times I've thought about the same damn thing. I would love for a Chicago Blue Museum to exist.

Tribune renovation is looking good. The thought of Tribune East, Parcel I and 400LSD rising together makes me extremely happy.

I think the Thompson Center should sell next year too, I wonder how long it will take them to release plans for the site.

I was going to be a track star but decided to play Xbox instead?

Esports is where people watch professional gamers compete with each other just like watching the NFL. Most esports spectators are not “gamers”... just like most who watch the NFL are not linebackers.
