If anyone has any updated photos of the site on the northwest corner of State & Division, would be appreciated. Caissons and superstructure up to level 3 slab permitted a few weeks ago.

Tower crane erection at UIC Outpatient Center. Nice, glassy design for the relatively bland 'brick and mortar' UIC campus.

In totally boring yet somewhat notable news, a new Taco Bell is coming to 941 W Randolph, in the Fulton Market. A storefront just a few doors West of Floyds Barbershop. Unusual, though supreme location for a Taco Bell.

I feel this picture needs a flying pig balloon in it.

Yeah, I'd bet a lot of money it would be the trendier Taco Bell Cantina which serves alcohol.

Aye, absolutely -- I'm interested to see how CA6 turns out. Belgravia, so we'll see (though, 360 W Erie is lovely, IMO).

Belgravia has stepped it up the last few years. The original CA buildings on Aberdeen are pretty nice and I love CA5 on Washington. Great urban infill, plus they are mostly 3-bed units so they help keep families in the West Loop.

They've also got Triangle Square going up on Elston which is dope, and Renelle turned out really nice.

They kind of hit rock bottom with Via Como, though:

OK, so I've seen that Via Como and have never known who was behind it! I could never decide if it was a sincere attempt or an ironic statement a la Tigerman or FAT. It's almost so bad it's good.

Who at Belgravia is making the decision to keep that on their website?

I don't really mind the façade on the right side of Via Como. Would fit in nicely in Pilsen.

CA6 is stunning. Hope it comes to fruition!

I don't think that would fit anywhere, even in Pilsen.

I find it very strange whenever a developer pushes a design as being 'inspired by'. To me, that's a red flag that they don't know or care about the end product, it's just about ROI. And that's fine, but they shouldn't push shit out and say it's a diamond.

It's not featured on their website anymore, I had to google the Via Como name to get to the project page.

I talked to one of the Belgravia guys once, even they kinda roll their eyes at Via Como nowadays... but I think it was very successful at the time. Not sure why yuppies in the late 90s wanted to live with busy expressways on TWO sides, but who knows... it's a great location otherwise. The Grand Blue Line stop was actually shuttered through the 90s but it reopened around the time that Via Como was built.

This is only a suspicion, but it's possible that the Marchetti family that owned Como Inn had some input on the design. Sometimes projects are structured as a partnership between a skilled developer and a legacy landowner. Or the landowner wants to weigh in on the plans before they agree to sell.

Walking into that when I was first in New Orleans was so bizarre. I still can’t make up my mind about it.
